I drove from Lauderdale to Orlando via 95 today and I think I must have seen 4 cops shooting radar on the side of the road, 5 people pulled over and passed another dozen or more! Is this Florida's answer to the poor economy, making it up in traffic fines?

It was like that on Friday as well when i went from Orlando to Ft Lauderdale on the Turnpike...They were everywhere...I guess it is there answer to the poor economy cause I have never seen it like that before.

They have to make up for the budget cuts they had to swallow.

Yes, much heavier traffic enforcement in the past year or so. Must be something to do with the budget cuts. Tax the speedy!

Or perhaps they are trying to slow people down. I've traveled both 95 and the Turnpike and if you decide to run at or a little above the posted speed limit you will get run over!

Ironic how reckless speeders have to pay for all the shortfalls from years of government reckless spending..........

Oh boy... here we go again... no such thing as a quota or end of month. I know.. hard to believe.....

However, most departments just got the monies / equipment that was allotted from grants last year to target agressive drivers. You will see new unmarked cars used for this purpose, new radar / laser speed guns multi-jurisdiction task forces. The use of helicopters and planes to catch those pesky motorcyclists that run from the cops at every chance.

C'mon...EVERYONE knows there are quotas and police departments target speeders instead of real criminals in order to generate revenue. ;)

Yeah, what's the ROI on that? Low risk though, that's a benny ;)

You want incentives? All funds from motor vehicle citations will be used for local education. All monies obtained from drug/thug busts go to the local juridictions.

I don't mind the State Troupers on the highways, we don't have many up here in Jacksonville. Although I would prefer State Troupers be out driving instead of hiding behind billboards.
Now can someone please tell me why we have city and county cops on the interstate? That tells me we have too many city and county cops.

Harding Ave. (A1A Southboaund), Collins Ave (A1A North) along Surfside and Bal Harbor; speed traps and very frequent checkpoints late night and early AM. This coming weekend they will be in full force.

    Just don't speed. Simple solution.

I drove the 300 some miles from Chihuahua to El Paso and return last weekend, WANTING to see the police, saw only one Federale. Had to keep my constant lookout for road blocks, because those are not the police with the roadblocks on the Mexican version of the Interstate. And if you try to run by them, they will just kill you.

Be thankful you see those troopers.

Well, something is going on though, because I keep on getting the calls from the police departments in Davie at the office and at home in Plantation, asking for handouts for this or that program.....
So the speed traps must be part of the revenue enhancing effort that is underway.

Be very suspicious about those solicitation calls from Police Organizations, Associations. The Pollceman's ball (Love that one) and Unions. Most of them are not endorsed or represent the organizations that they are soliciting for.

It is completely legal for some fund raising company to solicit on behalf of a charitible organization without their consent or blessing as long as a certain percentage goes to the charity. I believe it can be as low as 10%.

When you get one of those calls, no matter who they are soliciting for, they are required to answer truthfully the following questions:

Is the request coming from a charity or a commercial fundraiser?
Is the charity or commercial fundraiser registered with the Secretary of State as required by law?
What is the name, address, and telephone number of the organization asking for the donation?
Exactly how will the donation be used?
What percentage of the contribution will actually be spent on the charitable purpose of the organization?

I love getting these calls, and I turn the tables pretty quickly on even the most agressive solicitor. Most cannot answer the questions, as required by law and hand me over to a senior person. After they tell me how little actually goes to the charity. I tell them that I would rather make the contribution directly to the charity than line their pockets. If the donation is being made to a professional solicitation company and they tell you that all the money goes to the charity.. they are lying.

Lots of scams out there... Then again who knows.. Maybe Davie P.D. is strapped for cash... but I doubt it.

Thy do....I mean the monies from the drugs. government meetings you constantly have the approval of thousands and thousand from conficated funds to their 'jurisdiction' and they are usually tied into certain programs like DARE etc.
