include the 308 and BB too. I fell in love with the design watching Magnum P.I., seeing a new 328 in person late 80's as 14 year old, and then finally buying my 328 10 years ago. It has always taken my breath away, but I really think over last 10 years the looks have "improved".

I can only reason this is a combination of other cars from that time not aging as well IMHO (911, NSX, Lotus) and modern cars being plastic CAD engineered melting pots.

Each new Ferrari design serves to make the older models that much better looking. Compare something fairly recent like a 575M to a 599 or the FF and the divergence to FUG is pretty clear.

A timeless design will always look great. I'm thinking of classic Jaguars, Italian cars, etc, etc.

Had mine out for a rare January drive today. Fifteen years of 3X8 ownership has not diminished my appreciation for the design and driving manners.

I remember, back in the day, one writer called the 308 a "slab nosed road rocket". ;)

    But now, ...
"Modern cars -- They all look like electric shavers." - Sin City

I was looking at a line of cars parked by the curb, a while back.
There was a Honda, a BMW, a Buick, and I forget what else.

And, from the side, they all looked alike.

When the computers design the cars to the same "metrics", they all come out the same way.

What's scarier is that the proportions are changing.
A couple of years back, I parked the EVO next to a '70s Sedan deVille. The EVO was taller.

I parked the 328 next to a Prius once. By comparison, the Prius looked like a panel truck.

Drivers are competing for the "high ground" for cab visibility. All the cattle cars are getting taller.

    And heavier.

They keep adding horsepower to cars that are being driven slower and slower.
    Go figure.

Rob, I think the 'cool' factor of 308/328s is really sinking in. A new generation of people who were not really raised around Magnum are seeing them and all of the sudden they went from 'pretty cool' to 'uber cool' overnight, especially with the Emo punk kid crowd.

Aesthetically speaking, I think the 328 is perfect. I don't think there's any room for improvement by changing or adding anything to it. I can't think of another car that shares that distinction.

I love the entire 3x8 series, but the final iteration is as good as it gets IMHO.

I find the GTO to be the pinnacle with the more aggressive stance.

I agree, but I consider the GTO to be a different animal all together. The 288 is the ultimate car, not the ultimate 3x8.:)

I stand corrected - the 288 does share that distinction.

I was out driving the 308 yesterday and started laughing when I looked up to see a new Mustang. Still smile every time I drive mine.

To me the 308 looks better than the 328, but I know its all opinion at that point, but I agree that the overall design that both cars share along with the 288 has aged amazingly well. It is a true classic in every sense of the word.

I think it has to do with that knife-edged nose along with the absolutely sexy curves that the car has which gives it a sense of immense capability, but a sense of sensuality at the same time. I dont think that many, if any, cars come close to that sort of completeness in one package.

The car itself maybe aging but the 308/328 body style will never age.

I agree with all the comments above. I feel as we move forward our cars will be the iconic representation of our times. I too grew up with Magnum PI in college and never missed an episode on Thursday night. It is the car that defines that wonderful time of my life.

The 3x8 design is older, but its not aging. In fact, with taller rims and lower profile tires, it looks just as modern as other cars.

It's hard to imagine any company (Ferrari included), ever designing a more perfect blend of curves, glass, leather and horsepower. The only car I like as much as the 3x8 is the 246 Dino. In both cars, I think the 'B' versions show off the lines the best, and are perhaps the original concept the artist had in mind before deciding to produce the 'S' versions.

    Older? Yes. Aging? No.

It speaks very well to the future value of our cars that most collector car journalists (and modern car journalists) consider the 3X8 series among the prettiest post-war cars built. Generally speaking, you'll get a split between 3x8 and 246 on prettiest Ferrari by non Ferrari types. (F-car types will obviously pick up on some of the earlier cars and racers).

The 3X8s (and I'm particularly partial to 328s) are just really fantastic designs.

I would say that is normally true when I'm under my 328, even though it's filthy. However, today, draining to coolant in prep for pulling the water pump...not so much. Frackin' Luigi! Put a damn drain cock on the thing! :D
