Lurker (on this forum) here :)

Last weekend I had my first opportunity to go to California, specifically Los Angeles, for the weekend. Of course, the first thing on my mind is that it is the holy grail of car spotting. As pathetic as it sounds, I sat at a street corner near off Hollywood Blvd for about two hours just looking for and taking videos of exotic cars. Saw plenty of Bentleys, GTRs, Astons, etc. None of these cars had the slightest enthusiasm in their driving though. Rather disappointing in that respect.

However, the highlight of my weekend was when I was walking around Hollywood Blvd (again) with a friend and I saw the rear end of an all white 458 stuck in traffic. This was on my short list of cars I really wanted to see since the only other time I had seen one in person was at the Detroit Auto Show. I quickly handed him the stuff in my hands with no explanation and sprinted two blocks down to try and catch up with it. Just as I got about 10-15 feet away, it turned right in front of me onto an empty side street and I had a fantastic angle to watch/hear him run hard all the way through 1st gear. What an experience...

The driver probably never even saw me, but he made my week. I know there are a lot of people who give you a hard time for owning an exotic (money, gas, environment or other BS). But just realize that there are plenty of people that still very much appreciate fantastic cars. Thank you for sharing them with everyone!

He saw you, and remembering you are in the center of car hijackville, he split. :D

Can't be certain of that, but sounds like a good trip. I was in that area with some friends and at that time the 550 Ferrari was newer. They were crawling the streets like Accords in any other city. When you are on Sunset or one of the other boulevards, people are cruising to be seen, or just headed to the dog groomer. I don't know all the roads where they go to actually drive, but you need to get out of town to see them really used.

Sounds like your opportunity was not wasted.

    Cheers.

Don't forget to fill out more of your profile, many here are car guys and want to know what you drive even if its a gremlin.

Oh come on Micah I thought Buffalo was the center of the exotic car universe!?? No? Maybe not I suppose. I know there are at least a few around there though. Are you active in the local section?

Next time, make sure you visit the dealers. Lots to see there.

Thanks guys :) I'll fill out some more information in my profile. I'm active in a couple other forums in the same name. But I figure since I browse here almost every day, I might as well introduce myself.

While buffalo certainly doesn't have anywhere near the cars LA does, you can see some decent cars at times. I have a r8v10 a mile from my house. I actually created a master list of the cars I've seen this year.

I really wanted to make it to a dealership, but I had some constraints that prevented me from doing so. By the way, is it acceptable for people to just go in and browse?

Thank you all for the warm welcome :)

I go into exotic dealers just to look around. I'm honest with the sales people about my intentions. In some areas they have periodic open houses where there are a lot of people and you are more free to blend in if you wish to.

Absolutely, just be respectful, presentable, and don't waste their time. If you tell them your are a fan and hope to have the money someday, but aren't in position to buy any time soon, you'll be welcomed.

Don't expect a test drive or a ride... and personally I wouldn't even ask to sit in one.

    Welcome.

I would never do any of those things. I usually even ask if I can take pictures of people's cars. Thank you for the heads up though, good to know.

Then you'll be fine. Go and have fun. Asking before taking pics is also a great idea.

    FYI, my 3 y/o is also a Micah. :D
