Would like to try to set up a program for underpriveliged kids, in my NJ area. Some of these kids would never get a chance to join any such organization, due to finances of their families. I think that would be such a shame for them to miss out on this. I have a chief CFII, that is a very interested in doing this. Main issues are Insurances and fund raising. I'm NOT asking for donations, rather, maybe some info on where to get funding. Charities have been approached, not too much enthusiasm has been offered. Any assistance would be helpful. Thanks Skyraider
Congrats on taking the inititive to get something like this off the ground. Kids would eat it up and love it. I know I would have. I can't offer any help or advice money or insurence wise, but I do think someone already uses that name for a kids program so I would check into that. I want to say Chuck Yeager runs it, but I could be wrong. This was when I lived in Las Vegas. There was a program that took kids up on free rides. I think it was only one week out of the year but it was great for them. I wish you all the best with this project. Mark
Chuck is the Chairman of the EAA's Young Eagles program. This program is to get kids acquainted with aviation, by going for a ride. The lessons are then, up to the parents to pay for. Yes, I'm aware of the Eagles program. I just used that name here to give a "in a nutshell " idea of the project instead of explaining it fully. What we're trying to do, is provide a flight introduction (like the Eagles) and then instruction, to underpriveliged kids, who for lack of funds may never see an aircraft, other than on TV, or flying overhead.
Thanks for clarifying that. Im sorry I misunderstood your intent for the program. What you discribe is above and beyond anything I have heard of to date. I think that would make a fantastic addition to the aviation world and truly hope it gets off the ground. If it's ever done at an airport near when I'm living, I would be glad to help in anyway I could. Mark
OK ! Done deal! You are now in charge of recruiting people in your area to join in the program, set up a chapter, and get things rolling..... Just kiddin! But thanks for the offer. Let us get it off the proverbial "ground" here... and maybe then we'll think of expansion. Sadly, until we get funding, its all moot. .
