I built this totally from scratch in 1984. It has won a number of awards, including best in show at Buena Park California that year. The show that year was judged by Budd Anderson, of AMT plastic kit fame.

The louvers in the hood are real, and the hood straps buckle and unbuckle, even though they are just 1/8 inch wide. Each leaf in the spings is seperate, and on and on..

I have built hundreds of 1/43rd scale kits, and done only 3 1/43rd scale models from scratch. I modified a lot of 1/43rd scale kits and diecasts; things such as converting the Rio die cast Bugatti Royale Berline into the Royale Fiarce, etc.

At one time I had something like 7000 1/43rds, but I sold off a lot of stuff many years ago to Jacques Vaucher.

    Two questions:

    Does scale 1/1 count?

Does it have to be a car?

No...the lights are fixed. The only moving bits are the rear deck lid and the targa roof.

No, does not have to be a car.

N24re, That is a beautiful model you got there! I love how the windows are rolled up a little. To the very last detail! VERY nice!

Not trying to be a smart alleck, just checking. Have a hard time deciding which of my car models is my fav. So here for something different:

1/144 scale of the Shuttle stack and the Saturn V. Along with a scratch built launch complex 39B. Saturn V is signed by Charly Duke btw.

The other "model" is 1/1 scale, but not a great model: My F1 sim with LCD projection. Inside are brake and accelerator pedals, steering wheel with paddle shifters and stick shifter along with a nice sound system.

Can you please show some more pics of your F1 simulator - inside and out. It looks cool - in fact the car looks like one of those Barber dodge race car shells.... Thanks...

Thanks! Although I feel a bit guilty of hijacking this thread. So after my post, please everybody go back posting some cool model pictures.

A picture of the seat and the steering wheel. On the left side of are two switches for built in halogen lights: When the LCD projector is on, I normally have the room darkened, but I still need to be able to take notes of setup settings etc. That's the paper stack on the left side pod. Windows XP control is via infrared keyboard/mouse.

Pedals are down below. Sitting right is half your lap time, so I normally take a long time to find the right position. The seat is part of a metal frame inside the wooden car and holds the pedals and steering wheel/shifter combination. It is pretty good, but did need some enhancements to make it stiffer for the steering wheel: You don't want that to move at all to be able to give precise steering inputs.

The right sidepod houses the PC, the left sidepod the sound system. Behind the driver's seat is the power strip and the wall outlet. All hidden of course.

The projector hangs inverted above the driver's head. It is pretty old and I hope one day it will just die on me so I have an excuse to upgrade to a better resolution...The hours count is at 500, so halftime or another couple of years of racing until it is time for a new bulb = projector.

PS: This is now the 5th enhanced version of this sim. Every winter break I change something. The project for the next winter will be to incorporate an X-Box into this sim so I can drive Project Gotham.

PS2: The nose is btw from a real Champ car that crashed in Indy, I made the front wing out of aluminum.

Thanks Andreas ... one last hijack :) - what games do you play --> Grand Prix Legends? EA F1200X?

    cool setup.

I have seen a driving simulator before with the seat and pedal attached to a metal frame. But yours look personalized and therefore cooler!

    Thanks.

I have installed GP3, GP4, F1 2002 and GPL, but these days I mostly play F1 2002. Basically following the season as it progresses (including Shanghai and Bahrain!).

As I said, the goal for next year is to integrate the X-box, which would give me a hole bunch of street Ferraris.

The frame you saw is probably inside my sim: The seat is part of that metal frame, but you need the body around it to make it look better and give you the feeling of sitting in a real car.

PS: Speakers are on either side of head rest, so you get the stereo sound blasting right into your ears.

Do you have Ross Brawn also blaring into your ears "Slow down Barrichello ... let Michael pass" :p :)

I also have GPL and F1 2002. GPL is my all-time favourite.... Unfortunately my handicap is not that special :(

The telemetry in F1 2002 is awesome ...

The '67 Ferrari must sound awesome screaming away at 11000 rpm on your sound system :)
