I'm a bloody amateur on GPL. F1 2002 I'm fairly good at by now.

If you play F1 2002 you know there is actually some information from the pitlane, although it rarely tells me much of anything. Since I edited the driver's names to represent the 2004 lineup the program doesn't even try to pronounce new names like Pantano: "...just lost a wing." Great.
    :(

I can't wait for the next release to come out with updated teams and tracks.

PS: Beating Rubens is my favourite past time. The guy doesn't follow any team order and once in a while even tries to bump me. But I manage to simply outdrive the clown.

The last bit is funny but true... its almost like having Montoya as your temmate :)

I liked F2002 in the beginning but after playing GPL I switched alliances ... I find GPL a lot tougher from a driving standpoint and fun for that reason. The car has little grip that you have to think the car through. F1 2002 one can almost muscle the car through banging the curbs and relatively forgiving grass. Also the sheer volume of set up parameters sought of put me off ... dampers, rebound, etc.

The GPL interface is simpler and rewarding. The circuits are superior (chicane-less) and I have uploaded many more circuits from differents parts of the world - Laguna Seca, Daytona, etc.

The GPL65 mod is sweet! The cars have 1.5 l engines and are less powerful but they have very good grip and are more stable than the 67 cars. Very cool!

Sorry VROOM for the sustaining hijack - it is becoming a hostage session now :) --> I think we need a separate gaming section :)

Yeah, apologies as well. And the bad behavior continues...

The thing that I didn't like in GPL was the loss of control over the car. I guess I'm too accustomed to aeros helping with downforce through the turns and under braking. I had a hard time just keeping the GPL car on the track and when braking it felt more like throwing out an anchor than actually applying the brakes.

I know what you mean ... It took me nearly a week to figure out how to drive slowly without slamming the wall, curb, hill side, tree. It took me more months to drive all the primary circuits and figure out whats going on. I was on a handicap of +120 in Sept 2003 but am now on +15 .

Going from a modern F1 car to those oldie means that you normally too hot into the corner. And to stabilize the braking try to add more braking forward ~53-55% front brake is ideal. Too much rear brake and you will spin on entry.

Last hijack... I will open a separate topic to discuss this ...

GPL = Grand Prix Legends. It features Formula one cars from the 1967 season and 1965 season (add-on) and all the glorious circuits from that era - Nurburgring, Spa (long circuit), Mosport, Watkins Glen, etc. The game is a true sim and not arcade spec. Consequently it takes a long time to learn how to keep the car on the circuit w/o careening off. Tough. I thought I knew something about driving in a sim game as I had about a years experience in F12002 but came to this game and relaized I knew S***.

One year after playing about 3-4 hours a week I am still average - well off the pace of the top gamers.

I love it because it is challenging. Setups are not as painful to work though as in newer F1 cars as there is less to do..

The other good thing about GPL is that it has one of the most dedicated fan clubs over the past few years - there is unlimited number of real and fantasy circuits there for the cars. The graphics has improved in leaps and bounds over the years through patches and add-ons.

I can't wait for GTR... but I hate the company that makes it. The loading screen to the demo has a Prodrive 550 on it *drools* but you can't play with it until teh full version... :(

GTR is by far the most realistic racing sim ever made, but it's no F1 for you F1 fanatics. If you are willing to branch out and win the 24h of Le Mans for yourself then go ahead.

What's neat in this game is if you wanted a real 24h of Le Mans between some friends is that you could do it. After hooking the computers togerther and starting the race, at pit stops you can let the AI drive, so after a 2-hr stint you can let the AI drive for 2 hrs, etc. and switch off like in real life. Or you could have 2-driver teams... :D that would be loads of fun with a bunch of good drivers.

Sounds cool. I'm always open to a new sim as long as it features a Ferrari and is realistic. Keep us posted when GTR comes out please.

Vroom!!: Glad you enjoy this conversation too. I do feel bad about what happened to your lovely thread. Just to get us back on track again I'll post a pic of my most recent model (not that it is my best):

I haven't built any models but this is my favorite model from view point of accuracy and desirability.

It is a 1:18 Autoart Gulf Porsche 917 from the film Le Mans. I want to get a companion 512S to make it a nice duel.

I have several Ferrari scale models but almost all are by Mattel - so not really comparable with the Autoart or Kyosho. I have one Kyosho 328 GTS which is really sweet.

Yes, I've got 2 of those, one for display and the other for sale in a few years time - I belive it might be more valuable in a few years.:)
They cost about 80 - 100 USD, and they're still available on the bay from time to time.
I can highly recomend this model, it comes in a huge nice box, along with the keychain model (1/64) really sweet little thing. :) and the color, "Verde Artemis" is just to die for......
