    I don't own my house either. The bank does. I do buy a piece of it from them every month though and rumor has it that after 30 years, if I decide to stay that long, I'll own the whole thing!

    WTF? Who gives a flaming pooh? Would you say that you're not as good as someone else because you drive a 308 and they drive an F40? Because let's be clear about this: you're comparing you're owning your house to someone else's renting theirs is exact same comparison.

    BTW, there are a couple of scenarios in which it is far wiser to rent than to buy (overexuberance in a super hot housing market that's about to have some air let out of it is one).

    I told my wife yesterday that if our house was in So Cal, I would be very tempted to sell it, rent for a year or two until the market cools off and then buy a better/different house for less than I can now.
