Yank crap *Click* 375hp from 5.7 litres, how Clever ........ especially when youve just mentioned the 348 with almost half the cube capacity at 3.4 litres and a healthy 320hp. Hmmm the car industry would be different? perhaps for Holden and the Yanks but I dont see how this engine affects Ferrari or any of the top end European marques.
the small block Chevs are one of the best engines ever .... having said that I love my little 3 litre quad cam Fi V8 that pumps out a measley 240HP, the old carby Gt4 put out 255 "supposedly" but the QV is WAY quicker on the track
A lot of people love the original small block chevys, it made high performance motoring available to the masses. And on a similar logic only just without the performance...... This noisy little bugger must surely be one of the most produced engine of all time, Off the top of my head the Beetle, Kombi, Type 3&4, Karmann Ghia and the Porsche 356.. Rover/Buik 3.5 litre V8 for me, totally reliable, flexible, eminately adaptable and it showed the Yanks what Poms can do (sort of makes up for the Triumph 16 valve that we gave away to SAAB!)
Not sure of my favorite, but there are a few I really like. The A series engine as found in Mini's is a packaging accomplishment worthy of a gold medal. The F355 engine has more specific out put per litre than the engine that powers the mighty Mclaren F1, and the 355 engine produces the best sound I have ever had the pleasure of hearing from an internal combustion engine.. And to generalise, the modern Diesel engine is outstanding as far as refinement, development, efficiency and power output is concerned.
Now you're talking - the original 60 deg V6. And the 2.8 triple carb Flaminia derivative was even better. Anyone with a spare late Flaminia 2.8 Zagato, I'm listening...
