Hey - I just found this cool trick to view any youtube video at a higher resolution, simply put "&fmt=18" at the end of the URL. Check the different in quality between these clips: low: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7u4YyShPpQ&feature=user high: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7u4YyShPpQ&feature=user&fmt=18 low: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pCc6QHhwsQ&feature=user high: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pCc6QHhwsQ&feature=user&fmt=18 low: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj4eQ8vQdiY&feature=user high: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj4eQ8vQdiY&feature=user&fmt=18 Enjoy!
They released this info a while ago. Some of the newer videos will have an option to watch in hi res. its under the screen on the bottom left cant wait for youtubehd Antony
You're joking right? Here's a screen-grab of them: Hell - they even *sound* different, the second is much crisper. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
they've had a link on their videos saying something like "watch this video in higher quality" but i had never clicked it, figuring it would take forever to load and have minimal difference, but after watching these videos, you can really tell!
Here's mine. They both look low res to me. I tried all three comparisons too. Maybe something to do with monitor resolution, but videos on other sites are much better sometimes? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dunno - you can see my pics have a marked difference Perhaps go to your account settings and set it to high quality always: http://youtube.com/video_quality_settings
figures... #include stdio.h sub(video resolution) if video card = or > premium then display hirez if video card < premium then display mosiac if false then no dice return so sorry excuse sub
NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is GOLD for my site, we use thousands of YouTube videos for golf course flyovers.... Check out the difference on this weekends Augusta National for the Masters: Normal: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XtxnVKW373s With HD code: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XtxnVKW373s&fmt=18 I'll have my developer change the code for how they're displayed on our site first thing in the morning! I owe you one!
www.vimeo.com that is HDyoutube... check this: http://www.vimeo.com/630765 http://www.vimeo.com/354711
Yes - but not simple, plus there are some issues if the video isn't 4:3, some of my widescreen vids come out looking like spaghetti westerns. :/ I've got my site setup so that they are in hi-def automatically now (reference) but it took several hours of mucking around. PM me if you want and I'll help get you up to speed.
I found out with &fmt=18 it plays in stereo. It also has a higher screen resolution and raises the bit rate from 200 kbs to 512 kbs There is another thing you can do which is add &fmt=6 which plays a flash version with even a little better video raising the bitrate to 900 kbs but with no stereo. There are some other differences too. I can't play in the higher res though. Even on my wifes newer Vista machine. Maybe it is because I am using Firefox.
the &fmt=18 works, but the 6 and then your reference actually kind of suck. I see a lot of blur happening on some things and not on others, almost like vectorizing.
Yeah I gotta re-upload a lot of my vids in hi-def now as most of them I uploaded at a only-slightly-better-than-youtube quality.
