As an American, I wish that the Corvette were King of LeMans (despite my distaste for Government Motors). Unfortunately, that will likely never be the case even if I live to be 120. Class victories are nice, but that's all they are.
anybody in the racing world including the casual viewer like myself knows that Corvette Racing is for real.
American GT40 w Foyt & Gurney already won LeMans back in the 60s We'll see how Gurney's Delta Wing Thing does in 2012 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I know; I want it to happen again - sooner rather than later. As I remember it, with the class win success of the Corvette GM was talking six or so years ago about going for the overall win at LeMans. Obviously that plan got derailed. Still, I hope that an American manufacturer will win it all again.
There is a 1:5 scale model of the Corvette LMP1 car just down the road from me at Pratt Miller. It looked ludicrously fantastic.
Mark Basseng drove the Pagani Zonda R to a lap time of 6:47.5: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPd0ATqvoJM[/ame] Beat the 599xx by more than 10 seconds.
I say put Sabine Schmitz (the Ring M5 Taxi driver) behind the wheel and let's see what that crazy lady can do!
After watching the Pagani video, it makes me wonder what a ZR-1 would do with a paddle shift transmission? I know this is a bench racing question that we'll never know the answer to but..... Jimmy
2015 maybe you will know. Give or take. Just don't take it to the track for the prescribed break in period.
what's the sticker price on a ZR1? Are there option packages on the car? What about the fit/finish and interior quality? Are they still built with some "balsa wood" in them?
MSRP is ~ $110K but plenty of wheelin' & dealin' at the dealer. http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette-zr1/ A couple threads if interested: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291375 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=319807
The interior has been improved somewhat but you are better off getting a full new interior from Caravaggio. I never heard of the Balsa wood. Where is that supposed to be ? Porsche used balsa wood for some race car shifters bcus its very light
The C5 Z06 used Balsa Wood for the floor due to it's low weight, and low price. I don't believe it was used after that.
A 12 z06 w/ the 07 package just didi it in 7.22! Thats like 20s better than last time at the ring. Impressive.
My 84 308QV had a piece of wood in the trunk under the carpet. Any clue why Ferrari put wood in the trunk ?
i love when folks (top gear) make fun of the vette for things like "balsa wood", or the leaf spring, etc. and all but ignore the end results.
