Driving in this car in 1949, in a ravaged Europe, you must have felt so far above it all. The name is so appropriate.

I meet her there s some years ago and also in maranello. The first car with a solar roof and details inside car are numerous. Doors handle, manivelle for the solar roof...and this color is so nice.

    It is AERLUX, not Aerolux.
See also Jonathan Thompson's softbound book "Ferrari Album #3" (The Color Market, 1982) or the book "Ferrari Tipo 166" by Gianni Rogliatti and Angelo Tito Anselmi (1985).

Nice pictures, Thanks. A few points of reference for this car;Cavallino #167 page 34 and #188 page 70 and Prancing Horse #124 page 24.Many early changes from wheel base of 2420mm for a type 125 engine to 2620MM w.b. and 2620cc engine for the 2+2 coupe body. One of the few if any engines with the two vertical magnetos at the front of the engine. At the Turin show it was on the Touring stand with disc wheels. Finally some question as to whether or not the build sheets etc. are in the Ferrari archives. tongascrew

The Touring company owned the patent "Superleggera" and the patent "Aerlux" derivated from the aeronautical technology both. The first is a building system with alluminium panels fitted on a frame and the second uses plexiglas panels for the airplane cockpits. After the WWII, Touring applied both the patents in the car manufacturing.

I would not mind owning #017, 166 that is up for sale Sept. 13. According to the auction it is the 9th road going car. To have a first 10 car would be amazing.... I love the color.

Like a fine vintage car it all about the stance, after I've performed a full geometry set up they'll be fine.....

One of this better stories took place in 1946 when Ferrari wrote to Colombo to invite him to design the V12. Colombo I believe was in Turin having left Alpha Romeo and Enzo was in Modena rebuilding his bombed out factory.Because most if not all the bridges between the to locations were destroyed and not yet rebuilt it was agreed they would meet half way. Can't remember off hand where but it took each of them the better part of three days just to get to the meeting place.Things were very different back then. tongascrew
