The manifold will likely crack because of the excess heat generated by the catalytic converter. 355 manifolds barely survive when all is well with the car, let alone when they get too hot. |

Thanks for all of the advice. One question though - why would you ruin the manifold if the cat is plugged ? |

If it shuts down one bank, and its because the cat is plugged, and you drive the car, expect to replace the manifold on that side. Cost: about 3k per side not counting the converter. Art |

Rick, this is a common problem on the 355s. Most of the time it's the sensor, however when my slowdown light came on, it was b/c my Cat was "clogged". At the time I was close to my house, so I drove the car for another 5 minutes. When I got into the garage, I can see the Cat was glowing red hot. Lucky, nothing melted and the repair was covered under warranty. My advice: have your car checkout by the Dealer ASAP. |

Rick: usually its the sensor in the pipe that causes this. Relatively cheap. You can reverse the probes and if it changes sides, its the probe, if not expect to pay decent money for the fix. Art |

First time it happened was for a few seconds - power went right down. Second time a little bit longer and again the power disappeared and the light went off. Both times were after the driving the car for 10 minutes. Have done a couple of hundred miles since and everything has been OK. Fingers crossed. Thanks for your help. |

This can be a faulty sensor, a failing converter, or simply that the gas cap is not on tight enough. |

When the lite is flashing it indicates the Catalytic Converter/s are reaching an Overheating Threshold...this is a problem that should be taken seriously...it's unlikely you will be able to outrun the problem by trying to drive away from it...didn't work for OJ either. |

on my 348 I turned the car off, restarted & it went away. Not sure about 355's but I was told its either a faulty sensor, an ECU problem or a problem with the CATS. I eventually had to haev 2 new ECU's. Best of luck. |

Just quickly - what causes this to flash up on the dash board ? Should I stop if this happens or just continue slowly until it goes away ? |
