Steven I have no idea where you buy them. I saw an example of one here:

If anyone else knows where to buy this set-up please let us know, I'm interested.

Brian, after a while you'll be able to tell at a glance what band it is at night. If not, there is an aftermarket kit that replaces the red indicator lights with a different and bright colored light for each band of radar. That would make it very easy to read instantly at night.

Definetly a good point. Engine noise can be a dead give-away. I guess it's a discretionary thing - speed reduction vs. attention. You call 'em as you see 'em.

Dan,

Great advice though if i may add... When V1 tags real cop i usually do a fast clutch/neutral then brake. It quiets the engine and slows her down to proper speed (if/when needed). The exhaust note alone sometimes can be trouble, so best throw her into neutral and keep it quiet :-)

Brian,

Go to the website Steve pointed ou tand turn off X-band detection. Also, you will learn to know which noises are vadm and which is 'hold on, let off accelerator, start coasting, move over one lane' - it will become second nature.

Its great! I really like it. Always gave a good warning the few times it was tellin me about real cops. I have had lots and lots of X alerts driving by stores...and commercial areas. I had one K alert that was a cop, plus 3 Ka alerts that were cops. (all in the last 3 days) Really great device! The only downside I have come up with is at night..you cant visually tell which type of radar is commin at you. The actual label for the type of radar does not light up. However, each type of radar makes a different sound...I just figured that out on my way home today. Over all... WORTH THE 400$$
I am young...and I experience the temptation every day to hit it hard...and when the power is there waiting...its hard to resist.

GOOD INVESTMENT. THANKS FELLOW FCHATERS FOR THE HELP.

Steve ahs a good point: in CA they don't use x-band, so I just turned mine off completely. Makes a huge difference.

brian, have you been able to take your valentine out for a spin? i am getting ready to order mine, just have not wanted to part with $400 yet. i have a 80mile round trip to make 3x a week to school all on interstate, i see cops all the time, but there is to much traffic most of the time to get up to illegal speeds. i still would like the comfort to know when i am being clocked. any reason why you didnt get yours on ebay?
let me know +/- of the v1

Dan is right, instant on will kill you if you are the only one on the road. So will laser most times.

That said I don't think you can get better protection without having an active jammer(I'm still looking for someone to build one for me???). I covered almost 1000 miles in the last four days and my V1 warned me well ahead of time on every occassion.

It can't protect you from instant on. Just be careful. Don't think it's an excuse to speed, just realize that if you're brisk, it might help save you from impending doom.

Still, awareness is the best solution to avoid tickets. Know where you can push it and where you can't.

PS: Hardwire it...dangling cords suck.
