I don't own a Ferrari. I doubt that I ever will. However, I love the cars and appreciate true car enthusiasts of any marque who enjoy their cars.

I consider myself very fortunate that Matt (and others) have invited me to a number of FDC events. I was lucky enough to be able to attend one a few months back and although my lowly S2000 pales in comparison to some of the hardware that showed up, I was made to feel very welcome by so many of you. Including, and perhaps most specifically, by Matt.

As an outsider looking in, I think that this whole situation is rubbish. It should be about the cars and the people who love them, not this BS that is going on.

I don't Matt's accusers but have no reason to believe they're not decent fellows. I do know Matt and consider him a stand up guy.

My suggestion is that we all grab a shovel, bury this bulltaco and move on.

Losing a great guy, huge contributor to the community, and all around cool car enthusiast over something this dumb is just silly.

But that's my 2 cents.

F Lover:

YOu'd get a lot more respect if you had a real profile, if you didn't hide behind a phony name. I don't know you, but I think that you don't understand the dynamics of what has occurred, nor apparently do you care about the quality that Matt brought to the board. Tony Roberts, and his other alias was basically a piece of junk that cluttered up this board. Matt spoke for all of us in essentially eliminating the garbage from this area. Your opinons have little value, and if you're unwilling to tell us who you are, I suggest you keep your thoughts to yourself.

I also like Matt, but it seems to me that he is the only one that can close this issue, and by chosing not to participate in F-Chat anymore he has already done so.

Not the route I would have gone, but if he wants to leave, so be it. This is just a fun forum, and if it was not fun for him any more, he had done what is right for him.

In my opinion we should let it go and all move on.

I will copy my post I put in the General Discussion re: this soap opera.

Matt is my friend and if he lied about having either of those, I would be disappointed, sleep on it, and wake up not remembering it. Maybe not right away, maybe a week later, or whatever.

It was because of Matt especially, along with Byron, JL, Ron, Eldon, Bob, Gene, Martin, Tom D, Dan, Marty, Mike, Craig, James, Dom, Steve (house of blues Steve) and others that introduced me into the world of Ferrari ownership more than I could have hoped for and now I want one.

But I came away with something better than that.. friends I hope to keep a very long time regardless of whats parked in the garage, what fish stories are told, good times and bad. And I hope they feel the same way about me.

I will give anyone the benefit of the doubt and can forgive a mistake. I understand that some of you don't have that luxury. He exists to most of you only as a name and IP address with a personality.

If your out there reading this man, **** 'em, lets do lunch or go driving when you get back.

I've met Matt, and his 308. He's been very helpful and pleasant to chat with. I don't know about his other cars, and quite frankly, don't care. It would be a shame to lose him.

I have not commented much about this on F-Chat until now... Art, I agree with you completely. To many who know Matt both here online and in person, I'm sure you will agree with me that he is a valuable contributor to this community and is an extremely generous person, with time, money, and everything else. He is the guy you can depend on WHENEVER you get stuck somewhere... if he can't drive out to help you, he will go as far as finding the right person to help you out or chase down the right part # you may need for your car!

The unfortunate aspect of any online or anonymous setting is that people can never be truly represented by the way they are in person.

F Lover - I don't know who you are ... but if you trace all of the 'Tony Roberts' posts, you will see that most of that stemmed from a number of VERY inappropriate posts from the originating party... some racially-charged, which I found extremely offensive and inappropriate.

John, I'm glad to see people like you who have been following FChat, speak out with some of your thoughts... there are 100's (if not 1000's) of lurkers on this board who benefit from just reading this board... Every now and then, one or two people speak out and provide some added perspective that is very welcomed!! It is for this very reason why this board and community is so successful in its true fashion of comaraderie.

I've met (and continue to meet) so many quality individuals from the this community, almost on a daily basis... and from what I see, the caliber of individuals that I meet are nothing short of amazing. Traveling around the country, I've been met with open arms by strangers whom I've never met in person - just chatted with online. And likewise, I've extended the same courtesy. It is not important to me who owns what or who claims to own what... this is a forum for owners and enthusiasts alike... we love Ferrari. That is the common tie that binds us.

Matt is an asset to FerrariChat... whichever way you spin it or from whatever perspective you look at it. If he does not choose to post here anymore, that is a personal choice that I will respect... However, in my opinion, that would still be a loss to our small but growing community, especially in So Cal.

Rob, I can vouch for Matt as an individual with integrity. He is a friend who has helped out in countless occasions when nobody else was around to do so. Yes, he is somewhat vocal about his thoughts on this board - and who isn't? :-)

I hope we can all move gracefully beyond this and just continue to enjoy our cars, both as owners and non-owners.

having never met matt, but having exchanged many e-mails about boxers and the repairs and services we were having, it seemed to me he knew too much real info about the boxer and its' quirks. his e-mails to me...always polite. his posts...usually very fun and always witty.

matt don't worry about the gossip on this line and don't become part of it. the fact is there are many people on this chat that claim to be racers, serious collectors, hey adam fiedler even claims his diablo does 220 mph on nitrous(yeah right...read the gear chart you idiot!)

to sum up, i dont really care about the pictures but would qualify matt as a real ferrari guy, i hope he will remain so.

John, what you may not know is that Matt was the first and loudest to demand that others prove ownership of their cars. He even went so far as to offer $10,000 in cash and an ad in the LA Times if one person proved they had a particular Ferrari. He has also been very quick to point fingers and call people names at times.

That is probably the reason many people were not as willing to cut him some slack or give him the benefit of a doubt without some proof on his part.

Im new to this board and dont really know anybody, but have been following this topic. If I were in Matts shoes I can understand why he might be hesitant to post the pics. Sometimes when people doubt us and place demands on us like the whole "prove it" thing we may have a tendency to take the attitude of and say to ourselves "screw you, I dont have to prove anything." Matt is a major contributer to this board and maybe he deserves the benefit of the doubt. After all...these are cars. Its not like he has kidnapped somebodies Daughter as his own and has to prove kinship. Being new here I know my thoughts dont carry much weight but I just hated seeing somebody who has such a passion for Ferrari and this board feeling as though he had to withdraw.

Rob

It is a ImageForge file and you would probably have get it to open the file. It's available for download a bunch of places ~$30. I have Photoshop and a bunch of other photo editing software and none of them open IFOs.

You sent them in IFO format, which is not any graphics format that I've heard of. I'm researching it at the moment to figure out how to read it.

Can you just send it normally like a jpg or gif? Come on, you know better than that.

Everyone knows about the 308, but with the BB and 250 pf around someone must of seen them too. No pics and no personal sightings yet, but that's soon to change as Matt is emailing me pics tonight of the BB. We can finally get this crappy situation over with. No fun at all.

I would vouch for him, but I have only seen in person his 308...although Im just positive he is telling the truth. Call Symbolic Motors and ask if they did a 40k restoration on a phantom car!

Byron, Hans, or anyone else from FDC just vouch for him. I'm believing he's been telling the truth, so easy to prove then?

Oh, leave FC or Cali? I hope he doesn't leave FC, but we could use him in DFW. Not too many others are helping me with events here.

I've been reading the posts about Matt. I think that he had added quite a bit to this group, and even though I'm from Northern California, I think that we should try to make sure he doesn't leave. Any thoughts?
