"...but I still think the total black out with track lights makes the car really pop out. At night it especially gives the feeling of more space than it really is." Yes...I've got 8 halogen spots in one garage to highlight just the car and 10 MR16 halogens in another. Lighting is very important, whether it be general illumination, task lighting or effect lighting. "Whatever you do keep it clean and neat!!!" Agreed.

Roger, The lighted dealer sign was purchased from a collector in NY. I paid $3500 for it abot ten years ago. It is one of the original dealer signs from the 70's. I found another one recently and sold it for about the same amount, I was told that only four more were available, and to my shock they are showing up all over ebay for about $1200! The newer ones are exactly the same but the metal box holding the older ones is about 6" thick. Also if you look close the 3rd r in Ferrari is a bit crooked on mine authenticating it as made in italy! ;) The square Pirelli sign is also a rare lighted sign from the 70's, as is the clock. Now you know why California has an electricity shortage! I agree with Steve to make the car the focal point, but I still think the total black out with track lights makes the car really pop out. At night it especially gives the feeling of more space than it really is. Whatever you do keep it clean and neat!!!

Hot tip: when painting a white ceiling - 50/50 mix your white with UltraWhite . Otherwise, a ceiling painted the exact same as walls - appears darker. Behr is the best of the widely available brands. |

As a garage designer and consultant, I think Rick has done a nice job. Let the cars be the focal point...don't try to get too fancy with room color schemes. Stick with neutral colors for floors, walls and ceilings. Medium grey is fine for the floors (earthtones will work too if there a lot of natural wood trim) but walls and ceilings should be as refective as possible (ie, white). Color accents from cabinets, tool panels, artwork, memorabilia and trim/moldings are fine. Lighting is very important and there are a lot of high CRI and color temp options to chose from these days although red and yellow cars seem to look best under a 3400-3500K lamp (the silver and blue cars popular with Mercedes & BMW look best under 5000k lighting). The point I'm trying to make here is you can chose lighting to really bring out the color in your car but the tinting effect of indirect (reflective) lighting off of colored walls and ceilings will distort your intentions. For high value cars like Ferraris, especially the older collectibles, UV and humidity control & security are most important. If any of you are in the NYC area, feel free to contact me if you need any assistance with a garage project. Steve D / Ultimate Garage |

LMAO...! i'm with Amir on this; many people think they're good drivers and they're really not... Driving courses seem to be the way to go... Unfortunate, i'm not financially eligible to attend one or more, so i'm forced to slowly teach and learn, myself... Although there's so much i know i don't know, little by little, just by thinking, i figure things out; things that were never on the written or road test or in a car manual, etc. i've been trying for years to "read the road" as Amir mentioned, but it's only in the last year can i successfully decipher the goings-on around me... It takes time and practice and makes for a priceless defensive driving utility... Although i use it mainly to satisfy my own best ways to achieve maximum pleasure in each driving experience, it's still invaluable as i acquire more and more seat time... i'd love to spend a day in a car with some of the track people here... |

Mike, Thanks allot, I do not have the income of many here but what I lack in finances I make up in perseverance, plus i have been collecting since age 11. The 550 banner was from the debut of the 550 in Beverly Hills, it was signed by Piero Ferrari. The 355 spyder banner is still available from FCA southwest region I think they are about 175+ shipping. I wish I had a larger garage, I have quite a bit of stuff and no where to put it. I have been having some heart problems when I kick it you guys can come to the garage sale my wife will have :-). I have an inside shrine also: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/250178/279322.html?1062185509 Mike if you or anyone is ever in S. California you are welcome for a visit! |

Frank - lighten up, you came out of left field with your non sequitur gay ramblings. ------Frank ---- "Guys, whatever you do...DO NOT!!...I REPEAT...DO NOT call those queer eye for the homeless guys to remodel your garages!!! THAT would be a disaster in the making!! "Pleath, don't park that car on the perthian rug!".or, "WATCH OUT FOR THOTH PLANTH!!!" Or,"eeeeeewww! motor oil!" or,"Whath thith?" as they hold up a screwdriver." ---- You clearly could tell I was not making fun of tourettes - but rather making light out of an apparant non sequiter by you. However, you chose to obfuscate the real fact that you made inappropriate off-topic comments which would be offensive to many gays and many people with lisps (yes a disability) by trying to turn the tables on me by pretending you thought I was attacking people with disabilities. FYI, asking if someone has a medical condition is not making fun of it. E.g. Does he have diabettes? Does she have MS. etc? Perhaps you realized that your post was inappropriate and juvenile when absolutely no one validated your "attempt at humor" by responding to it. You should have been a man and stepped up and admitted your post was offensive and inappropriate instead of trying several classic defense mechansisms all at once: rationalization, denial, displacement and projection. I am not gay - but I imagine your post would be highly offensive to many gay people and the disability of lisping. Not to mention you somehow felt the need to somehow associate the homeless with the gays. Finally your response ---- "eat Sh*t You f*ck*n;as*h*le!!!!!!" ---- speaks for itself. You are a biggot and classless. And you are not funny. You don't need to reply but if you, do please don't be afraid to insert a paragraph break. |

Frank, if you have been in that many serious accidents, then sorry, you are NOT a good driver. Driving defensively, being able to spot trouble, and being able to avoid it, are all part of good, responsible driving on the public road. Have you taken any advanced driving/roadcraft courses? Attendees are usually amazed at how much they didn't know, and how much farther down the road they can read driving conditions. Perhaps these skills could have helped you avoid a couple of your accidents. Most people think they are "good" drivers. Sadly, it's not true. |

Thats O.K. But,I really think that it was in tune with the thread, but in a funny way. All you see on TV lately are all these shows(about 3 or 4 of them!) where these guys, usually, gay guys(Believe me,many years ago,I worked in a Furniture store, and all the salesmen and decorators were gay,( I delivered the furnture) and as Jerry seinfeld once said,"not that theres anything wrong with that") But,most of these guys on these shows that are all over TV right now("queer guys","while you were out",etc...) are gay. And,they are,in their own little way, making fun of "straight" guys,by throwing all their clothes out, dressing them up,hairstyle, blah, blah, blah. And,most gay guys aren't into cars. So,thats why I thought it was funny to NOT have one of these gay,"UN-car guys" making over a garage. Still in the realm of the thread, perhaps a bit off beat, not random. It IS about remodeling garages! Right? It would be just as funny if I said something along the lines of,"pray that your wife doesn't pull a 'while you were out' with your garage". You know, getting rid of all the car stuff and replacing it with pictures of flowers and the mother-in-law,knick-knacks,plates on the wall, kitty cat calender, glade plug-ins...stuff like that. Without offending any wives out there, either. And,do you read all the stuff on these posts? In regarding to "offending" anyone. How many "gay" Ferrari owners do you think are on F-chat? And,do you see some of the other B.S. thats put on here? People getting offended every day,I am sure. I was offended by some thimble brained moron, who doesn't know me or my wife, and making a stupidass comment about my wife being a crappy driver, and not knowing how to drive. Well, not really offended,(from most of the replies that I've seen from this dumbass,I can tell that he's an idiot with his head up his ass.) So,no biggie, right? I laughed it off,and "chalked up another moron". And,lastly,in regard to making fun of people. Making fun of someone with a REAL disability, like the mention of tourettes,is pretty low.I am disabled from a really bad motorcycle crash in '82,almost lost my life (and my leg).Car crash in '85, broke my neck in 2 spots, now my complete neck-all 7 vertebrae- are fused. And,another bad car accident in '01.(none were my fault!) Still able to drive my Ferrari.(for now, anyway!) lost my best buddy in'96. realized then that life's too short! Those people cannot help it that they have a disability like that. So,please just lighten up. I always try to inject my wry sense of humor into some posts, because I believe that you GOTTA have a sense of humor in life. WAY TOO MANY assh*les out there, that we have to deal with EVERY DAY! Life is too short. If you can laugh every day, they say you'll live longer. And,I don't think that what I said in the first post would really offend anyone that is or isn't gay. So,(my right hand is extended, making an up and down motion)lets shake and be friends. And,YOU wanna talk about being offended? I am part Polish...all my life, always hearing Polish jokes. But,I got over it! And can tell funnier Polish jokes than just about anyone else!(I am only part Polish. Actually, more German than Polish. So,I am like Michael Scumacher...A German driving an Italian car!...but the similarity ends there!) |

Mike, thanks for the kind words... Although we'll have to do without pictures of your Pinto since you don't have it anymore, i'm sure we could settle for pictures of a Porsche and a 550, right everyone...? Frank, i wasn't saying that you or anyone else shouldn't have a sense of humor, it's just that your post seemed rather random and not in tune with the topic and, as a more important aside, a comment like that is sure to offend someone... i'm all for a sense of humor, just not at the expense of others... Now,could we get back to the original intent of this thread? I actually found SEVERAL Ferrari posters and Ferrari signs, and even a Ferrari Lighted sign,at a couple swap meets. Most items found at the Chevy/Vettefest in Chicago. They have a swapmeet area, mostly Chevy and Vette parts and stuff. But,there are always a few guys there that have all sorts of posters, signs, memorabilia for sale. And I found 5 Ferrari 308 posters (I own a 308) but, they also had other Ferrari car posters. Also got a porcelain coated steel Ferrari sign. Also, always a few guys selling car models. I actually found(bought) 2 original, still wrapped Ferrari 308 "put together" models, that had a picture of "Magnum P.I." on them. The boxes were a little faded...probably from the early '80's. And,another guy had a 1:18 scale, brand new,288GTO for $15.00! And,I found 3 different "little" hotwheels 308's,including a Red/Black 308GTS. So,make a point to check out any/all car shows and the "swap meet" areas. Never know what you'll find to make your garage a shrine to Enzo's beautiful creations! |

Thanks,Jeff. I appreciate the fact that you did see the humor in my posts. I am a repressed comedian,(been told by all my friends that I should really give it a try, but,am disabled due to a bad car accident) But despite my disability,I always try to inject some humor into ALL of my posts...serious subjects or not. Life is too short to be a . My philosophy is: "You gotta be a little crazy...or else you'll go nuts!" And,visa versa . And,I agree that the "queer eye guys" could make an "Absolutely Fabulous!" garage. But...like a bull in a china shop... And,if anyone got their "grundies in a bunch" over my attempt at humor, then "thath" too bad! And,to everyone else that found it amusing, then,God bless! (or,as the great Red Skelton used to say: "and, may God Bleth!!!) But,the one guy wasn't much better with the comment about people with tourets.(which,by the way, "eat Sh*t You f*ck*n;as*h*le!!!!!!"I don't have.) But a disability...ANY disability, isn't funny. And theres a BIG difference in making fun of disabled people, and making fun of "queer guys for the straight guy"...unless you consider homosexuality a disabilty, that is! Have a nice day! |

I think some of you have seen these before. I went for the blackout treatment, probably from my years in the band working in black painted nightclubs. I didn't paint my floor as I do quite a bit of work on the car and since my garage is not tall enough for a lift I use floor jacks and stands. I kind of like the plain cement look reminds me of a old fashioned garage. Just a personal preference.

Geez! a little sense of humor here, guys! I saw an episode of the "Tonite Show with Jay Leno" a couple weeks ago, where those "queer eye guys" remodeled his set.(and,Jay is a big car guy,and was "needling" them a little about "guy stuff".) And,thought that it would be funny,as,most "queer guys" aren't into cars,or mechanical stuff..you know, the usual "guy stuff"( as opposed to "gay stuff".) It would be a disaster. Plants...Persian rugs...Ming vases...totally inapropriate for a "garage". Sorry if I hit a nerve or anything...now,I am going back to the Ferrari Bikini's thread... |

DES - I probably have set it up wrong in the profile. That is the C.V. of cars owned since birth - 2 Pintos (fyi one orange with faux wood, and one white)69 Rambler, Audi Quattro, 87 Jaguar XJSC, Porsche 996 Cab and now the 550. Everything is gone except the Cab and 550. That would be quite the garage to have a Pinto, Rambler and 550 in it. I am going to get some pictures of the car / garage for my profile - just need to get a digital camera. Back on topic - this post is inspirational. I need to deck my garage out in the Ferrari theme! And DES I read your posts and like your style! |

Some regular red fabric from Walmart, a loving wife or talented taillor and you got yourself red drapes on a nice rod hiding the mess. I have a transformer on the ceiing where the string lights get their jiuce from. I am hiding that as well with the flag hanging from the ceiling. Just got to get creative. |

There is a paint out there that will stand up to almost anything. When I worked for a printing company we would paint the floors with this stuff that came in 5 gallon pails. This stuff held up for years and took some real hard abuse (rolling power dollies carrying 2 ton loads of paper). I will find out the name and get it posted for you guys here. |

Gary/Rick/John - I used the two part. pretty frustrating. http://store.yahoo.com/streamlinedistribution/epoxyshield.html The only thing I can think of is that there was moisture deep in the concrete; or that I should have used muriatic acid to prepare it (instead on their mix). Oh well - I'll let it peel and then tackle it in the spring! Thanks. KS |

I bought a used lighted Ferrari dealer sign on ebay- its the smaller one, about 22 inches tall, with 2 florescent bulbs. Fits perfectly on the wall! Of course, I need a Ferrari go to with it, but I have a Porsche crest on the wall that matches my car better I also bought several porcelain round signs of car brands I like and put them on the wall in a staggered fashion (BMW, Alfa Romeo, Cobra (1960's logo), VW, Mercedes, etc...) I bought them on the net- they usually are on the net or e-bay for about $16-18. |

kevin, my painter used dual process expoxy paint, but it is peeling under the wheels of my MB S55 but not under the ferraris? maybe the weight of the MB is just too much for the paint. ferrari of beverly hills reworked their service department and used some type of expoxy paint and it is holding up very well. i don't know what brand they used, but there appears to me some paint out there that actually holds up and doesn't peel. |

You don't like my water heater? Neither do I, but the bikes stick out past the edge, so trying to hide it could be difficult. So far as my floor paint goes, it is new in the picture. Currently, it is peeling where the tires rest, and it is bugging me. I am thinking of doing Armstrong tiles on the floor. Has anyone used them? I am worried that if I put in tiles and don't like them that it would be very difficult to remove them. -John |

Martin, Here's what I did with my hotwater tank and furnace. Had them framed in with louvered doors. There was room left over to hide the garbage cans and some other stuff too.

Kevin, I also used the Rustoleum paint and haven't had any problems. Did you use the solvent based or the water based EpoxyShield? I used the two-part solvent based epoxy. Here's a pic.

Floor paint question - JohnRoberts & Rick Ramage - what kind of paint did you use on your floor? I recently tried the RustOleam EpoxyShield and the F-ing stuff is peeling after two weeks with foot traffic only. $60 a gallon........................ Kevin S.

Love that Waterheater.... How about a door covering it. I had to do the same in my garage. My opening is smaller but still. Even out of plywood some self made doors will do the trick. Sliding doors could work as well.

Guys, whatever you do...DO NOT!!...I REPEAT...DO NOT call those queer eye for the homeless guys to remodel your garages!!! THAT would be a disaster in the making!! "Pleath, don't park that car on the perthian rug!".or, "WATCH OUT FOR THOTH PLANTH!!!" Or,"eeeeeewww! motor oil!" or,"Whath thith?" as they hold up a screwdriver. |

I've seen some very nicely decorated garages but my wife wouldn't let me go mad in mine so I simply painted the floor grey and everything else white. Keeps it looking very clean. Also, I only have a single garage so once the car is in there you can't really see the floor / walls anyway. I have a Cavalino flag which I'll be hanging on the rear wall sometime soon though. Here's a photo, I don't have a pic of the garage empty. The car is standing on the base of my Carcoon which is a specialised plastic "tent" which keeps the car from getting damp in the winter. The blue carpet attached to the wall isn't because I'm a clumbsy driver, it stops the carcoon from snagging on the rough breeze blocks as it inflates. Regards, Justyn.

I have searched the archives for owners garage pictures and seen a few. I am interested in seeing some updated images of what people have done to layout and decorate their ferrari garages. Love to see what you've done! Thanks Stan |
