I bought a copy of the V12->308 installation guide off of eBay a yaer or so ago. It is very detailed and fascinating reading. The transplant is for a twin-cam 365 V12 but I have also seen pictures of a four-cam 400i transplant carried out by Nigel Mansell Sportscars (now called Westover) who are Ferrari agents in the UK.

Apparantly the V12 actually weighs less than the V8 and gives great front/rear weight distribution.

When I was living in No. Cal a couple years ago I met a guy, I think his name is David Goldsmith, he said he made the one that R&T had done an article on. I believe this was the first transplant. He said he made up a guide on how to do it. I don't know what ever became of the car, but the guy was into more modern day stuff now.

JRV,
An odd question. Did you live in the Bay Area, and own a couple of Parrots? (is that spelling correct)

Steve,

365 2+2 in a GTS sounds like the car I built...was it owned by a Doug Ellis..and in Atlanta when you drove it?

Henry,

I don't have one but I have driven one. It was a 308 GTS with a 365 2+2 engine. While it attracted a lot of gearhead interest, I really didn't find it all that impressive. It was fast but not quick. It sounded great and would effortlessly cruise at 100+ but it lacked the snap of the 348 and later cars.

It definately was not a, jump over tall buildings, hod rod. Perhaps the best way to discribe the conversion is that it made a GT car out of a sportscar.
