I can't beleive this :-( While I had never met them I feel like a friend has died. I always followed Jens posts especially related to organizing this event, he basically did everything a travel agent would do to pull it together. He was so excited. I also had several correspondence with Amar about the UK and ferraris. He was a true tifoso who would drive his 360 all over europe

Hello All,

Just got back from Bonn.

As I've seen you already heard the news.
Like you all read, there's no need to come to the nordschleife anymore.

Jens and Amar both passed away
The car somehow flipped over and caught fire. They didn't got out.

There will be more info later on, tommorow orso.

Best whishes,

Bart Boonacker

Indeed it looks like Jens and Amar.

Wolfgang is trying to get in touch with them over cell and can not get a hold of them. Both!

I tried Jens and no answer. He is also not home, left a message there. The group checked out of the hotel, Jens was no a guest.

Not much more info yet but from the Ringers list

I am sorry to report that there was a bad smash this afternoon, we were chatting at about 14.45 in the car park when a newish looking 360? modena with UK plates left the gates, we were talking about the fact that they don't handle, are better in the car park etc etc.. at about 15.00 a closure was declared, Caz was with us and her mobile started to ring, it was Jocke, he arrived 20 - 30 seconds after it happened, he came over flugplatz and saw the smoke from the burning 360. It had spun out at S-Kruez landed on it's roof, and caught on fire. They have just said on local radio that the driver was English and the passenger was a German. They both died.

It seems to confirm it was a UK Modena 360

I know how you feel. Life can end around the corner.
The same thing happened to me. It also made me think about the unpredictable side of our lives. For that reason I decided to buy my Ferrari now instead of in a couple of years.

Translation:

Two hobby racers crashed fatally on the Nuerburgrin with their sportscar. According to police the 44year old english driver underestimated a curve. The car rolled over and cought fire. Besides the driver a 29 year old passneger from germany dies as well. Both met over the internet and arranged for the drive.

I think the number of fatalities is more on the order of a few every month. I may be wrong but I remember someone there telling me that they averaged about 1 motorcycle death per month or so.

Ansgar,
where did you get the info from?

I hear there is several fatalities at the Ring every year. Since it is rated a street it becomes street fatality statistic not race related. During races I believe there has not been a fatality for years.

Hope its non of our guys.
