K&N might sell the damn focking things but it didn't fit in my Testarossa without some alterations and it did not do anything to improve its performance. |

K&N definitely make filters for the Testa - because my guys sell the damn things for owners who want them. I would love to see ACTUAL filtration comparisons.

Bruce I got it from a friend who is a supplier for stores like discount auto, pep boys, whatever... he is got the catalog and when we got the part it didn't fit. I didn't feel any extra push. |

BEN...NOT DISAGREEING WITH YOUR FINDINGS..AS YOU KNOW MUCH MORE ABOUT TRS THAN I DO......... SO YOU SAY THERE COULD BE MORE WEAR/TEAR WITH THE ENGINE WITH THIS FILTER?? |

Agree with Bruce they do make one (it's not generally available @ K&N outlets in the USA) - you have to get it from Europe, altho IIRC mine was $50 delivered. Bruce - I know it seems to make a difference, I have one - but I took it out because it was not filtering (the air) as good as what the stock filter can do. This does/will cause premature engine wear and can lead to failure. Not worth the extra push if you ask me, you are welcome to disagree. See: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/256120/177947.html I will get around to doing another oil analysis with the stock filter soon for comparason, will post results when I get them. -Ben |

KN doesn't make a testarossa filter but I measured my testarossa filter and kn does have one that will fit, but some sanding of the rubber of the filter will be needed as is just barely bigger, this will need to be done only in two sides of the filter. One thing is that I didnt feel any difference in performance. |

FYI, my '91 has a cooling fan and radiator. Also, my Ftech said the K & N is a waste of money since I prob won't clean it often, which requires solvents, etc, and it is better to just use paper filters and change them often. |

billy, I know the 512TR never came with an oil cooling fan, dont know about the TR. My 512TR definately needed it, 3 -5 laps at speed on the track & the oil temp was reaching for the sky, now its under control. I just went to a hot rod shop & got a regular cooling fam, my mechanic installed it so it kicks in at the same time as the water fans

William, doesn't the TR come with an oil cooling fan? I know there is an extra fan in mine which turns on when the oil temp gets a bit hot. There are three fans back there. Or are they all for water cooling? |

The biggest performance upgrade I did to my TR is getting a full borla exhaust system from exhaust manifold on-no cats. There are four tube mufflers located way down so it doesnt really heat the air going into the motor not to mention that the engine bay is much much cooler and the sound is unbelievable. As for a chip the 512tr and 512m have an electronic sequential fuel injection system that controls fuel curves as well as timing so a chip could be made to maximize the timing and fuel curve. On the older TR it is constant injection which from what I understand nothing can be done about except changing to a programmable sequential fuel injection. Has anyone ever done this? |

Jim, I did not wrap my exhaust as its not as big a problem on the 512TR as it is on the TR. I did insulate the air intake snorkels & I had the 2 air filter boxes painted with thermal reflecting paint. To lower my engine heat I installed a cooilg fan behind the oil filter which helps considerably on the track & I removed the screen under the engine lid to create larger openings for the heat to escape I suppose if JB wraps his exhaust he could also add an oil cooling fan to help cool the oil off. If it gets real hot you can always do what they did on the 348 that raced at LeMans, install cooling fans under the engine lid to blow air out through the top of the engine lid

William, Did you notice a rise in engine temp when you wrapped the exhaust? I wonder how the engine heat dissipates if not thru the exhaust? Does it just pass thru the exhaust without changing the engine temp? (Doesn't seem possible) If the engine heats up, then what have you accomplished? What temp does your car usually run at? Jim |

JB CVT -- Have you actually found a company offering a TR "AFTERMARKET (injection?) ECU" or are you just asking a general sort of question? What version TR do you have (i.e., exhaust configuration, injection type -- K or KE) and what continent are you on? |

I think K&N makes air filters for the TR, on the 512TR you have to buy the filters they make for the Jeep Cherokee |

I have the Koenig Chip, Tubi exhaust, K&N filters on my F512M. If the their chip for the first series TR is half as good as the one they sold me for the M, it will be the best money you ever spent!! I HIGHLY recommend Koenig. |

1 major problem with the 86 TR is that the air intake sits on top of the muffler so it gets preheated before it enters the engine exactly the opposite of what you want to happen. Cool dense air feeds more air to your engine & you make more hp. Hot air does the opposite The 512TR has a much better intake system, it uses 2 long snorkels under the rear fenders that scoop air out of the cheesegraters in the doors. Last time my engine was out I removed these snorkels & wrapped them in aluminum insulation at home & gave them back to my mechanic to reinstall. It did cool the air & it did make a noticable difference cus before I couldnt chirp the tires in 2nd, now I can For the TR I would suggest you get a Tubi muffler but before you install it wrap it up in muffler insulation to cut down on the heat rising into the exhaust air. after that, if the exhaust intake is metal you can send it out to have it painted with thermal reflective paint to help cool the intake air some more. If you have time & inclination you could wrap all the fuel lines & the intake plenum as well to lower the air temp even more |

What kind of chip can possibly be made for the Testarossa. Isn't it CIS injection? I doubt that these computers even have chips and if they do what do they control? Not trying to knock anyone's company just don't see it helping in any way. |
