Yes the "S" is located at the suction valve on the compressor head.

Yes, thank you for the safety reminder. I remember seeing one of the guys that taught me how to rebuild motors blow up a can of Freon by connecting to the high side. Not a pretty sight. Luckily no injuries but it is something that has stayed with me whenever I work on A/C systems (rare). I'll assume from your post that the port is on the compressor.

Thanks,
Mike

The port marked with an "S" is the low side or "suction" side and is usually the larger hose. Please be careful and wear eye protection.

Hey guys, where is the low side inlet for the 308/328 system? On the compressor or up from near the evaporator/drier. If it's on the compressor, is it easy to tell which is high and which is low?

Thanks,
Mike

No, do not evacuate the system. Freeze 12 is compatible with the R 12. I have used it a number of times.

Magoo can I just add Freeze 12 to the existing r12 that is already in my system? I will put in some of the stop leak and I will only need about 1 can of freon to top it off. Should I just throw in a can of Freeze 12 or do I need to drain the system and then fill it with Freeze 12.

Rich, The site that Octavio suggests is a great one. It doesn't have the freeze 12 brand freon but has another brand that can be used. They also sell the sealer for R 12 systems.

Also you can buy Freeze 12 now which you can add to the R-12 systems. It works and I have used it successfully in various R12 systems on other collector cars.

Rich, I have used it in various systems and had no trouble. If you use it be sure to snug down all your connections and as Mark says the Schrader valves, suction side as well as the high pressure side, can leak. So check them as he suggested. You can tighten them with a valve remover and installer tool. Some tire valve caps have the tool made, cut away, in the valve cap itself.

I think the Refrigerent R-409 is a better replacement for the R-12. The R-134 has no Chlorinated Flourocarbons and therefore is available to sell in a store. I think the R409 needs to be purchased by an EPA licensee, but I understand that it is a closer alternative.
For the leaks, one of the prime leak paths is at the Sheridan valve (fill valve). After the system is under presure, put some soapy water on the fill valve. These valves are like a tire valve.

It's probably the seals like Magoo says. I have to replace all of mine I think as it leaks out slowly. R12 is getting to be such a pain to get ($$$) that I'm gonna have to do it soon. My dad has all those A/C repair tools, machine that takes it out and puts it in, freon, etc around so it shouldn't be too bad.

Hello Warren, and thanks for the info. It is an R-12 system. I like R-12. I will check into some stop leak. Is it safe for the system?

Rich, Are you still using R-12 or did you convert your system? There are stop leaks depending which type of freon you have. What they do is make the seals expand and more pliable. They are found in all auto stores. If you have changed your converted your system recently you probably should go over it and re-tighten all the connections. The one place that will leak is the pulley seal at the compressor. Sometimes this happens if the unit has been unused for sometime.

I noticed that I have a small A/C leak. I topped the system off about 3 months ago but when I went out yesterday it wasn't as cold as it should be. I believe it to have a small leak. What is the best way to handle this? I don't have the leak detector equipment required to find the leak. Is there an adequate stop leak for the A/C system? How many rubber a/c hoses are on the 308 system? Any info would be appreciated.
