Great event. Nice set of cars. No 360's (guess I should have put mine in), but they have an Enzo, an F50, among many other pristene Ferraris, including both of Rob's. Here's a pic or two to tempt you if you're nearby and are debating whether to drive by or not. Oh, and if you do, support the winery by buying some wine... so they keep doing this... their tastings are free if you buy a bottle... the LaBodega Cab and the Macpherson Sangiovese are both surprisingly good Texas wines. Cheers!

[okay, picture upload not working... what's the trick?]

From Jerry Lee Phillips, organizer of the show, "About 5 of us laid out the field this evening. The grass is very wet and there are 2 small areas that are soggy. However, all of the field is covered with grass and the approach into the field is small gravel which is good too. So, as they say, on with the show!"

Hasn't rained in Grapevine since at least about 5pm. I came home from work at 6:15 and 114 and Main was all dry.

Cars won't melt anyway, although they might sink. :-)

Several people seem to have been scared off. Our friends from Hot Springs look like a maybe @ best. Scratch a Jalpa, Espada & Mangusta, unless it has already stopped raining up north.

Hopefully the drainage on side is good. Not worried about clearance with the Ferrari, but the Maserati on the other hand, might be a problem.

You're right... the weather is supposed to be great (clear and 84) but the mud could be a killer... for the people looking at the cars too.

BTW, I drove over to where the event is going to take place, really nothing up there at all. For some reason I thought this was going to be tied into Grapefest but it's really not even close... it's on a remote sidestreet 4 blocks north of Elliot's Hardware.

Maybe we'll get lucky... let's hope it drains well. :-)

Since I did not enter the show, and can't attend all day due to work, I plan on showing up REAL early to check out the cars as they come in (they look better in motion) and take some pictures of the show during set up. I'll have to scoot out a little after 10am. I'll be going back to sample wines on Sunday. Anybody else only able to go on Sunday that wants to hook up?

I received a nice packet of stuff from this event in the mail today... personal invites you can send to invite friends, even came with envelopes. I think this is going to be a pretty good show. I'm looking forward to seeing these cars!

BTW, if they take a q-tip to the bottom of mine, they'll get good, clean oil. :-)

I would not worry about scratches etc. I assume that part of the cost is event insurance. Last year we had somebody hit a Rolls with a purse @ Taste of Addison. This slightly dented a piece of window trim. The city of Addison paid for a new piece of trim and installation. You simply cannot put on a show without adequate insurance, unless your nuts...

Tillman, We really appreciate the complement about the car. We would just like to go out and have fun with all the people involved in this wonderful event and enjoy the great cars. Don't get me wrong it is always great to place in car shows but not what brings us to them. I agree with you Rob, I don't want to make a fuss for this event or any other event, we drive our car and it shows. A Q-tip would not be required to see the dirt under our car. :-)

'73 Intermeccanica Indra
'95 Ferrari 355 Challenge
'85 Maserati Quattroporte
'00 Qvale Mangusta
'87 Lamborghini Jalpa
'66 Maserati 5000 GT
...plus dozens of other classic Italian vehicles!

It's part of public shows. Taste of Addison was probably worse because of beernos and being in a high traffic area. I doubt we'll be in a high traffic area and with the Enzo and multi million dollar Cali I bet there's good security. All of these events will have insurance too if there are any problems. At taste of Addison I had someone lean against my car for a picture and there was a scratch, but later I found it was just in the wax.

My philosophy for a show and that of others I respect is to show the car how it normally is driven. I just don't understand the effort and time to make a car 100% spotless. At many car shows they'll take off points if they can scrape a Q-tip under your car and get dirt. Crazy people!

Hehe, no most guys here are interested in sports cars in general, I know I am, and hot rods too, which the Pantera is really an Italian hot rod. But the Pantera windshield is right in your face, so you get lots of sun/heat. The original AC compressors weren't the best. I'm lucky, mine has an updated rotary compressor, and light colored interior. Helps a bunch.

I seriously doubt they will be charging spectators. This is Texas, not Pebble Beach.

The show is FULL? That's what I get for procrastinating.

I was holding out to make sure I could get out of work that day. I know I can still attend and have fun, but I wanted to be able to go into the "air-conditioned private meeting room--for registered participants only (not open to the public)--where they will have wine tasting, munchies, etc...

Anyone know how strict they are gonna be on this? Part of the event is hanging out with other owners and talking shop...

Neat info from Jerry...

Ferrari Maserati of Dallas has a positive word on having the new Ferrai Enzo at ItalianCarFest in Grapevine, Tx. Sept. 13: It looks one will be there.

This model goes 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and has a list price of $643,300. It is styled like nothing else on the street.

Also look for an F-50, a Daytona, and a California Spider.

Thought you might want to get the word out.

Better than the several red 328's and other Ferraris that will be there. Should be orginal color wise. I'm going more for just hanging out than showing the cars. Maybe someday I'll have a concours V12, but not today.

Looks like this is turning into a really big thing with regestrations about ready to max out this week. FoD and the Lamborghini dealer are also getting involved in a big way. I've got my two entries in. Here's the email I just got from Jerry of the FIAT club...

Greetings, all!

The final early bird applications have arrived and I want to thank you all again for promoting the show.

Bob Dezzany and I revisited Cross Timbers Winery last Saturday and had another meeting with the owner. Preparations are already underway: signage, the lay-out of the field, designated parking for trailers and non-show vehicles. Although most yards are showing signs dry, hot weather browning, Cross Timbers is watering 24 hours a day to keep the grass green for our show Sept. 13 .

Currently we have registered 59 cars and 9 cycles. A second direct mail piece went out Friday 8/1 to the same mailing list of Alfa, Fiat, Lancia & Maserati owners that we used for our first mailing. We expected a surge right before Aug 1st, but we did not anticipate what an overall huge response we received. I wanted to tell you this to give you an opportunity to communicate to your Italian car friends and let them know registration will likely end within a week or so. One change: We have asked new entrants to limit themselves to one car.

This week, those interested should check our show web site, ItalianCarFest.com, before mailing in an application. (When we are at capacity we will post this information.) By Aug 9, applicants might want to contact me at 817 521-4400 or Bob at 214 827-2086 to discuss availability.

Further, to increase awareness of the show, we will be auctioning an application for ONE car on eBay the last week of August. One can type "ItalianCarFest" (one word) in the search box to pull up the item.

As most of you have heard, Ferrari-Maserati of Dallas is in as a sponsor and they are pulling out all the stops. And they have promised to tap their collectors to bring some fantastic, rare cars.

Lamborghini of Dallas registered three.

Further, if available, the newly introduced Ferrari Enzo (see Road & Track, July 2003) and Lamborghini Gallardo (see car & Driver, July 2003) will be on the grounds. It is possible these new models will be at ItalianCarFest before arriving in dealer showrooms! Because of the timing, it is not certain these two incredible cars will be on display, but both Ferrari-Maserati and Lamborghini dealers are making the effort.

Thanks, again for your help. With the entusiasm of you and people like you, ItalianCarFest will prove to be the fun, upscale event we've been working toward.

Jerry

Damon, my Triumphs and MGs experienced similar symptoms... but overall, Fiats were probably more reliable cars. That's a scary thought, huh!?!?

BobD, those X-1/9's don't leak near as bad when they are empty :-) I know, I drove one for a while.

Good question Tillman, without getting the exact answer. FCA requires special insurance for moving events like we did for the Poker Run. There is a general umbrella policy over the club that may cover events like shows. Usually the organizing group has some type of coverage as well. My 328 got scratched (later buffed right out) at the Taste of Addison show. There was an event insurance that would of covered it if I wished.

Might be a question if this is truely a FCA event or not, probably not. Right now we're just advertising it to the FCA list as an "other" event like we do with the MAFFIA events.

Fiat Club is who is sponsoring the event.

Tillman, I dated a young lady with an X1/9 years ago. I remember asking her if she'd ever changed the oil. I didn't get much of a response so I decided to check the level. I could blow the dust off the dipstick, I mean it was dry to the bone. Pretty amazing, the car ran so much better with oil. :-) Actually it was a fun car... but very slow. I'll bet you'll see several at this event. I've registered.

One of the benefits of paying $135/year to FCA is supposed to be insurance (mainly liability) at offical FCA events. That's why I'm asking these questions. Is this an actual, offical FCA event or are we piggybacking on your event? Either way is fine with me.

Are there going to be any X1/9s there? I'd love to see one of those again.

Wouldn't your insurance on the car in general cover it while at a show?

Rob,

Do our FCA dues cover the entrance cost? Are we covered under FCA insurance while there?
