Not many people know, but the Lancia Thema 8.32 (SW) is in fact a sibling of our sister Mondials, which carries the same engine as our Mondis. ;)

    The history:
    History

Here is a very nice Lancia Thema 8.32 SW and yes it is allowed to carry the sign of the pranching horse. Especially for this car Lancia designed the rims in Ferrari style.

I really like the small details on these Lancias saying that she can out run you :D

That is very cool. We don't get cars like that around here.

I assume that transmission in the picture is for a different car?

Similar V8 engine in the 8.32 but not quite the same. Ducati assembled the Ferrari castings and think the crank plane and the firing order is different (but I need to double-check on that). I did have a Lancia Delta 8.32 back in 1984, wish I had kept it a have yet to see or hear of another (only reason I sold it on was due to the fancy Martini color scheme. Thinking about it now I suppose I could have had it re-sprayed....!)

    Thema 8.32
First shown at the Turin Auto Show in 1986, the Thema 8.32 ("8" standing for the number of cylinders and "32" for the number of valves) was assembled at Lancia's S. Paolo plant in Turin.[7] It used a 2927 cc Ferrari V8. This engine was based on the unit used in the Ferrari 308 and in the Ferrari Mondial Quattrovalvole, and some of the componentry was assembled by Ducati[8] from castings made at Maranello.

The engine differed from other Ferrari V8s of the time in that it was equipped with a cross-plane type crankshaft rather than the usual flat-plane crankshaft, smaller valves and different firing order. All this to make the engine characteristics more suitable in a four-door luxury saloon. Both Series 1 and 2 cars in non catalysed form produced 215 PS (158 kW; 212 hp) and were capable of 0–100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and 240 km/h (149 mph) whilst catalysed versions were slightly detuned to 205 PS (151 kW; 202 hp) which gave 0–100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and 235 km/h (146 mph).

The car offered good performance and excellent refinement, including a luxurious hand made wood-and-leather interior by Poltrona Frau complete with the same luxury equipment as LX versions of the Thema. Unfortunately, a price tag of £40,000 (or more) in Britain, and the fact that only left hand drive versions were produced, limited its appeal with only 9 being officially sold there. This version of the Thema also sold in limited numbers in Italy with 2370 Series 1 built between 1986 and 1988 and 1601 Series 2 built between 1989 and 1992.

Its key competitors were some of the fastest saloon models of the late 1980s including the Audi 100 Quattro, BMW M535i, Ford Sierra RS Cosworth and Opel Lotus Omega/Vauxhall Lotus Carlton.

Offered 2 series of the 3.0 QV engine:
    3.0 V8 32V 2,927 cc (178.6 cu in) 215 PS (158 kW; 212 hp) at 6750 rpm 285 N·m (210 lb·ft) at 4500 rpm 240 km/h (149 mph) - 6.8 1987–1989
    3.0 V8 32V 2,927 cc (178.6 cu in) 205 PS (151 kW; 202 hp) at 6750 rpm 263 N·m (194 lb·ft) at 5000 rpm 235 km/h (146 mph) - 7.2 1989–1992

Been next to one of those here in Portugal, in dark grey. Very cool and extremely rare cars, available for very low prices (if I'm not mistaken, you can get an OK one for around 10.000€ give or take).

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

What I find interesting is that high mileage doesnt seem to matter in the threads about the Lancia 100k or more was mentioned!!!!!

100k wrapped in an F car f folks would be dogging it....hmmm me thinks these engines are very stout;)

The 3.2 is very reliable, from what I gather from literature available on the internet, owners' experiences and Ferrari specialists. Mine has 45.000km on the clock, have serviced it this year and my Ferrari specialist told me there's plenty of energy in it.
Also Lancia can use the Ferrari name with pride, they're makers of great cars and have a name in Rallying. When I was a young boy I saw the Martini Lancia WRC team win back to back World Championships and since then I've said I won't die without owning a Delta Integrale.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Doesn't the Lancia use a conventional crankshaft (not 180 degree)? If so, that could make a difference e.g. lower revs.

This station wagon is a one off, made by a guy in Holland. He documented the build up in a blog some years ago.

The engine has virtualy no interchangable part with the mondial/308 engine. I think a guy on the 308 section figuered that one out.

This time Ferrari gave something to Lancia, but in the early fifties, Lancia was near bancrupt and gave Ferrari the F1 stable with D50's the cigar grand prix cars with the fuel, cells between front and rear tires. Ferrari rebadged them and took the world champion title to Maranello with it!

Lancia is a very special car brand with fantastic engineers but lousy marketeers. And now in the hands of Marchionne it is put aside.

Every year there is a nice driversweekend for Fulvias put together in september. It's a 1000kms weekend, but it's soo much fun. We prefer to go to the north of France. Roads are fabulous and empty. It's more fun to drive hard with a slow (to Ferrari standards) car, than with a fast F car.

I see some things I can use! Indeed it is not the full Ferrari engine as in our Mondials or 308. Ferrari would be crazy if they did and it would make the Lancia a bullet on wheels for a regular luxery car those days. different crankshaft and smaller valves. I think it is also in one of the YouTube movies what the differences are. But hey.. we can put a real 3.2 in it, it fits right in :D

Nice picture Bart of your Lancia! Saw a nice episode with it on Jay lenos garage :) sweet!
