I have a CGT but never owned a 911, so thinking about jumping into one. I’ve been getting feedback about these two as being top driver’s cars. Values are high…I’m aware the R went up near a mil and dropped down to about half mil and the recent pop of the 4.0 market has gone up significantly. Any owners here with feedback? I believe you are referring to 997.2 GT3RS 4.0? Then go with GT3RS 4.0 over 911R. 997.2 GT3RS 4.0: only 600 cars were built, worldwide. 991.1 911R: 911 cars were built, worldwide.
That is a very tough choice. I would say a lot will boil down to how you answer the question: "how modern would you like your 911 to feel?" If you're looking for links to Porsche's past, the 4.0RS is your car. If you're looking for something that feels more like a modern car, the R is your ticket. You won't go wrong with either. And, as you've seen, the RS 4.0 is enjoying a moment in the sun (and making life tough for folks like myself who would have loved a .2GT3RS)
Test drove a 4.0 and it is beyond amazing! Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
4.0 is the one 997 was the pinnacle of what a 911 was all about. Everything since is bigger, longer, and more computerized.
We have recently traded in our partners 4.0 to a dealer friend, beautiful 2200 mile white/red. I can put you in touch
This. IMHO the increased size changed the 911. Still great, but it feels a bit larger than its racing heritage would suggest. Aesthetically, the 997 is the best of the water-cooled. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
If you plan to drive the car on the street: 911R, no question. Porsche did something magical with that car, and once you drive it, you'll get it. If you actually want to track one of these, then of course get the RS.
Agree with M. Brandon Motorcars, but I’m biased. I’m one of the fortunate handful of non-918 Spyder owners who were allocated a 911R. All 918 Spyder owners were given right of first refusal on the 991 Rs made. The rest of us had to try and convince Porsche AG and GT Division head Andres Prueninger why we should own the car. Better lucky than good, in my case. Many are garage queens, some were not ordered with the single mass flywheel, some owners did not adhere to the original intent of the homage car to the 1967 911R, many were flipped and sold for a hefty profit. Mine has 5,100 miles, seemingly low for a 2016, but likely one that has higher miles than most. And yes, there are a few track miles included on the odo. I can’t attest to the performance of the 4.0, but have a friend who owns both (as part of an extensive Porsche collection) and he maintains that it’s apples and oranges. The R is truly a drivers car, and well suited for the street, which is why I think MBM’s observation rings true. Apologies for blathering on, but the R is indeed a unicorn and magical. You make a point, I drove a 911R that did Not have single mass flywheel and it did not impress me. I think it makes quite a difference. Does anyone here own or has driven a 997 GT2RS to compare to the 4.0? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not shopping and my only experience is with my now sold 997.1 GT3 ( in white - you'd have liked it ) - I'd much rather have a NA 997 GT3/GT3RS than the GT2RS - the sounds are just soooooo good Good luck - can't wait to see and hear more about your pick. MDS
You make a really good point… the 4.0 sounded really nice! So I’m afraid the turbo GT2RS may sound too quiet. You know me, I have exhausts on All my cars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS for sale on BaT Auctions - ending April 11 (Lot #142,454) | Bring a Trailer Probably too many miles for you, but I just saw it and was all excited - LOL. MDS
The 911 R is incredible car and one of the best I’ve ever driven. It’s a true drivers car in every sense and still feels incredibly old school. There’s a major price gap between a 4.0 and a R so it’s not apples to apples. From a value perspective I’m not sure how you beat the R and I’d take it over a CGT any day for something to really enjoy on the street.
Are there any owners here or people who have experience with the 997 GT2RS? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
