Bonjour. We are planning our holiday and thinking a renting a car and making the drive from Strasbourg down to Lake Como. Can anybody share advice or guidance please? Is this a smart thing to do? Or is it better just to take the train to Milano. Thank you, Keith

    Hello Keith,

Definitely a good idea to go by car
You will cross Switzerland and the Alps
    Beautiful scenery everywhere
Try not to drive on the Motorway all of the time
There are very beautiful roads and mountain passes along the way

    Excellent decision
CDG to Strasbourg on the TGV (Train Grand Vitesse = High Speed Train) is certainly the fastest option (300km/h)
There is probably a good train connection from Frankfurt to Strasbourg as well, not high speed though (4h) (see bahn.de website)
Flixbus is the cheapest option (5h) But you are probably not on a low budget ;-)

Feel free to contact PM me
I have been lots of times in the Alps and in the Lake Como region, also in my Ferrari

The Ferrari 70th anniversary from France went from Reims to lake Como, before going to Milan and Maranello.
From Strasbourg you can go South to Munster and then follow the same itinerary, which was Munster - Zurich - Fluela Pass - St Moritz - Cernobbio.

Hello Keith, it is completely possible to drive from Strasbourg to Lake Como and it can be very fun. The path requires approximately five to six hours, and the beautiful scenery you see while traveling makes it valuable. However, get ready for tight streets when you are in regions with mountains. If you like adventures and wish to have the liberty to travel around, hiring a car is a good option. But if you would rather have a calm trip, going by train to Milan and then Como could be simpler. It mostly depends on what you want from your vacation. Have a nice journey!
