To drive a car with no clucth was my nightmare you have to make the decision to shift up or shift down accurately but after a few drive it's wonderful! If you don't drive your valeo for sometime, you will have to start learning again.
Hi Pom, That is the best picture!!! There is so much going on at one time. Very, very cute and natural. Cheers, Hank
Read through this topic with some interest. I have just bought an 83 Mondial QV about 6/7 weeks ago. Due to the crap weather it is now in the garage probably until summer next year. I have had one or two niggling faults the main one being a failed (I think) fuel pump. It is going into a specialist on Monday. What interests me is how popular the Mondial is in the USA. In the UK for instance we have a popular motoring journalist (Jeremy Clarkson) who like the student in this thread thinks Mondials are pretty awful cars and don't reflect a true Ferrari. He can afford F355's, Mercedes SL55 AMG (current car) and a Ford GT40 (on order) Oh and an English Electric lightning aircraft on his lawn. He has written a book "50 most crap cars" and I believe the Mondial is about number 40. However in complete contrast the little time I have owned my Mondial it for me is the best car I've ever driven let alone owned. It is a true Ferrari by any means. A few people were surprised when I told them I was buying a Ferrari a few car enthusiasts were a bit unsure of the Mondial, but when you see and hear it in the flesh it beats any pictures hands down. I have seen a Mondial parked next to a 355 and the Mondial still holds it own. But it is each to his own and I cannot see me ever selling my Mondial. I am just going to add other Ferrari's to it (in my dreams anyway). I am still convincing my wife of all this and trying to get her to allow me to buy a 64-69 Ford Mustang aswell. Out of interest I looked at some of the prices for Mondials in the USA and they do look more expensive than the UK. My 83 was £14250 about $25700 how does that compare ? Ironically this Jeremy Clarkson made me look at the Mondial because of another book he wrote which made me realise it's affordable.
Welcome to the board, Haccord! You ought to see what we think of Jeremy Clarkson..... Do a search function on his name just for giggles. Best from all of us, rt
Erik - Nice looking car! Haccord - Welcome to the Mondial owners club. I agree with your opinions of the Mondial. A fantastic car, and every bit a ferrari. And whats more the family can come too! Dont forget to post some pics when you get a chance.

Very nice! We don't see the dark side strakes here in America very often! It's always interesting to me at least how 'at home' the Mondial looks in a European setting - and that it is not really a small car.... Great looking car and welcome again! best rt
Great looking car. Looks in excellant condition. The black sides were standard only on early Mondial 8's. Looks like an aftermarket, but still looks good.
Hey, welcome to the group. Great looking Mondial in a really cool looking neighborhood. Congrats & enjoy! Cheers, Hank
Adnaan: Thanks for the comments. I took a chance buying a car 8000 miles away and not seeing it in the metal first. All of the issues we have with it are minor and we'll get it sorted out before Christmas. Amazing value and I'm really happy with it. Sure its a little "slow", but a F430 isn't 10x the car the 8 is. At least not in my books. Cheers, Erik
i know alot of people ridicule the mondial, but how is to drive???does it pull???does it handle well,i know the pedals are incredibly offset, does that affect driving??? im asking these question to defend the mondial in future car comparisons
Pedals are offset, but you get used to that after about 15 minutes. I drove it nonstop for 4.5 hours last week with no problems (I'm 6'1"). It tracks very straight (you could probably drive through Kansas without your hands on the wheel). Steering is very direct. My dad drove it and he is no Ferrari fan and said that it had better feel than my M3 and Carrera 4. Meant alot coming from him. Steering is heavy at very low speeds, but so is every Ferrari made before 1994. It doesn't pull to one side or another and foot to the floor, it still tracks straight. Great bang for the buck.
lol thanx, dude wat i mean by pull is does it perfom, i know the latter 3.2 models are stronger, but comparing to something more modern?
You're not going to win any stop light shootouts, but it will manage modern traffic. I was never left wanting more power in traffic and getting passed by minivans. Its capable of being driven everywhere...
87-89 would be a 3.2 coupe = mid 20's to low 30's. 89-90 would be a t coupe = low 30's to high 40's (but you can get some nice cars for mid to high 30's).
Hi all, OK, finally, here she is - SN #93123, my new 92 Valeo Mondial t Cab. red/tan/tan. What fun!!! More pics to come - cheers, Hank Image Unavailable, Please Login
European setting .... all that rain too . Funny because looking at the non european pictures they look better to me! I note on the later Mondials they reduced the size of the side intakes and brought the front upto date. Colour coding makes the car look much cleaner. Bit like the late 70's and early 80's in the UK when they de-chromed cars in general. Not sure why mine has the black intakes, as all the others I looked at were colour coded. Makes me wonder. Mine was taken away today to have a faulty fuel pump looked at. Actually felt good when a trailer with "Ferrari Specialist" pasted on the side pulled out front. On the downside I have had it 5 mins (it seems) and already have problems Got to admit Hank's Mondial looks superb. Was never sure or not if I liked the drophead. I do now.
