Question for 355 owners with F1 trans: Do your rear wheels "light up" (break traction & spin) when you launch from stationary in 1st gear with a quick stab of right foot all the way to the floor? I tried to break traction with a heavy right foot while in 1st gear but could not. Seems like F1 clutch would not hook up fast enough to allow rear wheel spin. I haven't tried it with car in Sport mode....but would that make any difference? Please advise....TIA
I'm not an owner and I have no experience of the 355 F1. But still I'd say that my senses tell me that there's so much grip from the rear tires that if you don't give the car some revs prior launching it won't spin the wheels because the power comes on so progressively...?
Good question; after installing a new clutch myself I didn't want to go out and toast it just yet! Once I jumped on the gas pretty hard and they broke free, but the road was a bit damp too.
I have done it and YES it will spin, no problem no matter what the weather condition is The tricky thing is to control the spinn!
That is why I like the manual 6-speed GB. I don't like some computer deciding when to let the clutch out, that is my opinion of course.
Along that note, when perfoming the "performance start" as indicated in the manual, it is more helpful to have it in sport mode. The car will light the tires up just fine in normal mode, but if you are not quick enough to control the spin, the revs shoot to red line and the F1 box shifts to second gear (automatically) and bogs out badly (much to your embarrassment I might add). Sport mode prevents this automatic upshift and bounces the revs off the limiter instead. best, pino
This is true...I absolutely love the F1 and would buy the same next time. BUT I agree, I do miss being in control of the clutch. Especially in stop and go traffic, the whole time I'm worrying that my clutch is burning up. I suppose there are worse things in the world than sitting in a Ferrari F1 in stop and go
I know it's easier to spin your rear wheels if surface is wet. Just wondering if F1 would allow enough torque to do that on dry pavement upon launching. I guess I'm so used to my E55 breaking loose on any surface condition with any slight hint of over-enthusiastic right fool application. I have yet to make my 355 lose its rear traction. I'll try this weekend with and without Sport mode.
