Well put, a 288 is a true Ferrari classic.

As I recall, it's 2 different GTOs in these pics. The bottom one had non-UK plates on it. I have other photos but they're not with me right now but I'll dig them out. Strangely, the pic you posted further down of the registration "EE 109 AK" rings a bell for the bottom car if that's possible? It was certainly something like that.
I also have a few pics of the GTO in the Patrick Collection museum registered "426 GTO" at the time. Like I said, I'll dig them out...

Please do and thanks for offering.

EE plates were a familiar sight on GTOs considering that most of them started life with them on.

I have seen this car in the US, but I do not know the chassis number. Very sharp car ;).

Considering your location, and considering the other cars in your state, you may have inadvertently given me a clue!

    See it in PA?

Joe have you estimated how much longer you can keep this thread alive by drip feeding your GTO picture supply? Everytime I think that you are running dry, new pix appear :):):)

I'll have to double check, but I think I have photos of that car from either a PA, NJ, show or Cavallino from a couple years ago. I just remember the plate for some strange reason, as it was one of the only GTO's I have ever seen. I'll get back to you.

    DM18:

You make a most excellent point, as it crossed my mind the other day as to whether we would bother to post in this thread after the Reunion this August or just let it die. Its worth noting that I have images sent to me by enthusiasts, owners, and family members, and others simply from the web. I encounter in the market worldwide (including your own neck of the woods), a fair few cars in the course of my business and images of all aspects of them are valuable to have. I try as best as I can not to place images that will be a repost, so hopefully anyone reading this thread from time-to-time will find that it has new and fresh images, as much as possible. I hope this clarifies for you the thread's picture supply.

Its worth noting too that this thread does not just contain pictures, but it also contains literature, technical illustrations and a ton of detailed information about the cars, all hopefully to the benefit of owners and enthusiasts alike.

Hopefully, you find this thread of some value to you, as you have indicated as such in the past.

How much longer will this thread last? Well, thats a bit like asking "how long is a piece of string?". This thread is about a special series of 279 (or so) cars built. There is a thread in this very section about just one single car that will probably be kept alive forever, whilst interest remains, and I for one have no problem with that. In all seriousness, I guess whilst interest remains there is a chance that this thread will remain in active status. Other threads on the 288 GTO also come and go, and perhaps its nice to not have to conduct searches for elusive information within obscure threads.

Meanwhile, I just came across this illustrated depiction of Ferrari's goings-on in the 1980s, 288 GTO included which I have never seen before. Fabulous.

Well today Mr Evans turned up at a local meet in his £5 million ex James Coburn California Spyder, but that was not the best bit. The bit that made me smile was his wife turned up in her car (so to speak) with their small child on the passenger seat in a baby seat. Not a bad car for her indoors as we say here in the U.K.!

That is not a real 288 GTO, and let me share why I say so.

    - The front spoiler is not the right shape and is in keeping with that of the replica that is often seen in England. I think its the same kit.
    - The bumperette is the same as the aforementioned replica's and it does not protrude at the angle and to the extent that a real one does.
    - The rear panel is sectioned at an unusual point and whilst it could always have been cut, 288 GTO panels although scarce are available and its its just another nagging doubt.
    - Those are not 288 GTO wheels. They are 85/86/87 Testarossa wheels without the bolted split rims (centers are the same of course).

I call replica, unless a chassis number is forthcoming, and even then it would be a very strange 288 GTO!
