After a long visit to the Europe, a little gem has returned home to North Carolina and is now in my hot little hands. When I last had this, I never even un-boxed it to see how it operated or functioned. We immediately sent it to Hill Engineering for measurements and possible duplication. Sadly, even the re-manufactured price makes this too expensive for 99% of our likely customers, and we scrapped the project. It's kind of a beyocth to lock the rails in place, but the fabric is nice and tight. It's the mythical folding top! Unless the right offer comes knocking, it stays with good ol' 86426. p.s. My car leaks with an OEM roof. My car leaks with a full carbon fiber roof. I fully expect this won't do any better
hey dan, my car came with one that I haven't really used yet. I'm thinking of using it when it gets less hot out to go around topless and have this thing folded in the passenger seat if I need to park the car or it rains etc since I'm too tall to have the top behind me. Anyhow, my question is, would you recommend spraying it with scotchguard or something to make it water proof, or is the fabric good enough as is?
I honestly don't know what kind of protectant would be useful. Scotchguard might work, but I'm not sure how it would hold up under heavy UV light -- so that might degrade it's usefulness. I found the railing quite firm and almost hard to lock into place on mine. I hope the rails don't bend or kink -- that would really suck. I believe these tops are worth about $3500-$4000 in a fair market. Not because of the materials, but because of the scarcity. Ferrari probably only sold < 300 of them. eBay doesn't count.
Here is #3. This is kinda what they look like in action for those that do not know. And Daniel even GTB's leak it is Ferrari charm. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That dude makes it look easy. I wish we could have made these things cheaper. Really, if we could have put them on the market at $1000 brand new with all new hardware, I think they would have sold nicely. Alas, the latches alone cost more than that.
CHP 11-99 Run 2006, rained (Pretty hard too), no leaks whatsoever! One other time (that makes 2 times I have driven in the rain ) rained pretty hard as well, No leaky When I wash it, (that's kinda like rain) No leaks!
Oh yes... I need to make one thing clear -- there are two types of folding roofs out there. One type, like mine, has full latches and clips. It is opened and locked before installing onto the vehicle. The other type, is 'pressure held' like the pictures FBB posted above. In that style (and shown below), the rear pins are installed, then the roof simply stretched into place. There is big warning sign about not exceeding 90 kph. I suspect these were not OE Ferrari. Does anyone have more info on the two different styles? Image Unavailable, Please Login
^ As I said on the phone, hold onto it. The price difference between them is dramatic. The non-latch ones are about $750-$1000.
So Daniel.....now that you don't need that rag-bag ole carbon fiber top, I'll be glad to recycle it for you.....
+1 LOL ............... my spider does not leak either, I have tested it on and off the freeway in heavy rain !
