Well that's pretty depressing. Way to go ICE - please save us from these horrible supercars that are "a real threat to public health and safety". >8^) ER Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Morons, do you suppose they'll auction it or crush it ? Our Commies & EnviroNazis will probably take great glee in crushing it Dont forget C02 and bottled water are evidently dangerous and "a real threat to public health and safety"
The article says auction and deport. Brian - since you will undoubtedly spot this thread soon - I have a couple of questions you can probably answer. - Why wasn't this particular car imported under Show or Display? Seems that would have been easy enough given a production date of 1994 with no ODB-II to worry about. - Do you know if the Marconi Museum car is still here? Is it set to experience a similar fate perhaps? - I recall your status with Claudio, but any idea if the car he was building back in 2007 was completed, or did that process stall? - Is 10 the right number for production coupes, plus one Spyder? Thanks! >8^) ER
Aren't they supposed to enforce border control, and naturalization processes? Meanwhile... the Lefties are hard at work again. Additionally, since the car is the man's buisness... would he not qualify for a manufacturer's plate, and not require to register or title the vehicle?
saw it at the rodeo drive show on father's day this year. I am really happy I got to see it live. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think the Marconi car is pretty much a static display. I don't believe it's been registered for the road so it probably couldn't be seized.
Tax money at work. Im glad they seized it, i couldnt sleep at night thinking of the danger it posed..! What a load of BS ! Morons !
You can't realistically expect law enforcement agencies to not enforce the law, can you? It's pure hubris on the owners part. Plus it's an ugly, distorted, thing. Good riddance. ..and I love the "lefty" "tree-hugger" remarks... like this wouldn't have happened a year ago. It's not about left and right, guys, it's all about meaningless distractions while Rome burns.
Government gone mad! I want to call Claudio but I'm not sure what I'll say. This is stealing plain and simple.
Personally I think the laws causing a car like this to be elligible for seizure are not well engineered, nor do they truly serve the common good. Even the Show or Display provision that was enacted in 1999 is still far too limiting given that there is no exemption allowed from the EPA standards for the year of manufacture. I'd fight to change them, but my pockets aren't deep enough yet. Also, Frank - I am not sure registering it has any bearing. This car that was seized was being driven around on a dealer plate. Perhaps Marconi has his cars here on a museum carnet or some other waiver. >8^) ER
Answers: 1. You'd have to ask Claudio. I don't want to speculate. 2. Yes. Doubt it'll go anywhere since it wasn't registered for the road. Given the # of cars Dick has in his collection and their worldwide origins, I'm sure he properly imported all of them. 3. Hasn't progressed since 2008. Not sure status. 4. 9 + prototype = 10 total. Surprised at todays outcome like rest of you. Customs has the documentation, so they know why they seized it. I have a copy of the original sales receipt for that car, was not $600,000 - it was sold for 450 million lire (at 1994 dollars, = $243k USD). William, go buy the car at auction. Would be a perfect pimp for your slut mobile.
Thanks Brian. I doubt I'll get the opportunity to pose my question to Claudio. Didn't you say before that this car was not owned by him directly though? Hopefully this one doesn't disappear. Sometimes these legal matters surrounding importation have a way of stretching themselves out for several years. I think the Feds held onto McLaren F1 #069 for nearly 5 years while the trial against its owner was progressing. It was finally released and exported back to the UK where it has a new owner. >8^) ER
Correct. Owned by Bruno de Cillia who owns a car museum in Austria. If I were him, I'd be pissed. This car has been here for 9 years. Wasn't sold, wasn't federalized, wasn't shipped home to him.
Are you sure it's owned by him? I didn't know he had a Cizeta. I guess I'll ask him about it in two weeks when I get back to Austria.
If it's been here as long as Brian said, he's probably forgotten he has (had) one. That being said, I wouldn't want to be Claudio having to make that telephone call... >8^) ER
Me either! What I don't understand is why the Feds just don't mandate the car be shipped back to the original (and current) owner. I don't get any of this, why the car will be (if the article is correct) auctioned.
Wow ... he'll be pissed. Wait .. I'll rephrase ... he'll be furious. I'll call him in a couple of hours, when it's daytime in Austria.
Just realized I didn't link to the source in my original post, so here it is since I am too late to edit: http://auto.freedomblogging.com/2009/12/07/ice-seizes-700000-exotic-car-in-san-juan/23209/ >8^) ER
Well, one less poluter on the road! I wonder how much green house gas it gives off doing 100 miles a year? Must be something awful. I bet it killed three polar bears all on it's own.
Soo .. I just talked to my uncle (DeCillia's neighbor). According to him he sold the car years ago ... to an Italian "pop-star" or so. But he is going to call DeCillia and get some more info.
