I would like to use my portable navigation system in the 308, but I have the 'old type' cigarette lighter. I.e. the version in which you insert the cigarette and just push down the outer ring of the plug to turn it on. I also tried the plug for the emergency light under the dashboard, but it's diameter is too small, so the recharging plug of the navi doesn't fit in.

Has anybody encountered the same problem, and is there a (reversable) solution?

    Thanks,
    Robert

The trouble light plug under the dash is the best way. There are adapters that plug in to that socket and give you a cigarette lighter plug for the nav. I don't have the link because I can't remember what the heck they call that type of plug. Someone post it!

Buy a plug from a BMW motorcycle dealer and the ashtray type socket from someone else (ebay ?) & wire them together

No need to wire them together, on Ebay you can buy this adapter:

(no affiliation, in fact I bought something similar some time ago from another vendor that looks a bit more rugged. Do some search on Ebay).

    Edit: found it:

    Finally bought this one:

And it works perfectly. Thanks to all who provided helpful advice.

    Robert

PS: Does anybody know if there's a similar converter, which is plugged directly into the 'old type' cigarette lighter socket, and has the 'modern type' cigarette lighter socket on the other end? In my Alfa GT Junior I have the same old cigarette lighter socket, but unfortunately there's no such 'trouble light socket', as there is in the 308...

I have heard that a One-into-two adapter has a shallow version that plugs into the cigarette lighter and then the two female ends are larger. I think that made sense.

When I got my 308, the lighter socket was already up-graded to a one from 328. So, I have been using that one for GPS, etc. That's one possibility, I guess.

    You're probably right.

In the 308 the Powerlet-adapter for the emergency light socket works just fine. But in my Alfa Romeo there is only the 'old type' cigarette lighter, and I just hoped that there would also be some kind of adapter for this...

    Thanks,
    Robert
