Got a ticket in long term parking at Ohare 6 weeks ago. "expired tag". But I had renewed it online before we left on the trip, we cross into the month of October while in long term parking, and come back to find the ticket on the car. I mailed in my proof of my on-line payment that clearly shows I paid it BEFORE the deadline. I just got a letter, some administrative judge ****** decided to say F-U and I still owe $50. there is no one to complain to.... so I looked up the "judge" on line. He is one of 75 unelected "administrative" judges, a parasite, I mean a lawyer, who works sometimes for the city. I left him a voice mail.... we'll see if he gets back to me. And I have 14 days to pay or get a fine at least the amount of the ticket, plus the ticket. Nice. Thanks Chicago!
This city is really one of the worst i have seen when it comes to how it treats its citizens. It gives virtually nothing in return to the taxes and tickets you pay. Crime, violence, potholes, lousy city services, lousy public transportation etc.. As i said in the other thread, i had a ticked for right turn at 7.24 when it said no right turn until 7pm. The photo they sent me even showed the 7.24pm time but they still refused to cancel the ticket. Then we got a ticket for street cleaning on a friday when the street cleaning was on a Monday. Same ****, they refused.
I know it is a pain to contest tickets in person; however, I have always had favorable results when I have contested tickets in person at the branch on Addison. I got the same ticket several years ago and brought in my proof of registration and the administrative judge waved the ticket. I got an expired tag ticket once while at Foster beach because I parked nose out and brought in pictures and paperwork and the administrative judge waved it. I got a ticket once for no front plate after my car had been in a hit and run and it was waved. I suggest EVERYONE who gets a parking ticket in Chicago, CONTEST IT IN PERSON! I can't say it enough, GO TO THE OFFICE ON ADDISON just west of Western. I have always had favorable results at this branch and have never had favorable results by mail. Furthermore, I have always gone around 3:30 or 4:00 and it has never taken more than 30 minutes to hear my case. As a side note, I am not condoning improper police behavior; however, I know many of the cops are on the hook for ticket totals these days and are writing tickets for minutia. In addition, many of these BS tickets are actually issued by LAZ/Traffic management and not by CPD. Good luck with your appeal.
That's what gets me too. Where does this money go to? Probably the corrupt political machine. I don't think much has changed here in the last 100 years.
+1000%, and it's not only Chicago; it's all of Cook County and and the government in Springfield. Illinois sucks!!
hello, this could easily get political. So all I can say is that what goes on in Ill goes on in DC, enough said.
Hey Mike next time you need long term parking call me. You can leave your car at my house and take a short taxi trip to/from airport. My family does it all the time.
I was driving around one of our shopping centers trying to keep the annual Christmas season event of shoplifting to a minimum this weekend. An old timer flags me down and asks if he can ask a question. He then bellys up to my window and proceeds to fill my squad with a rant about receiving a ticket in Chicago after parking his car on the street with expired tags! I tried to explain that, yes, I'm a cop but where he got the ticket happens to be................40 MILES AWAY!!!! I let him vent and he seemed happy that he got to yell at someone and left. Point of my story.........Chicago sucks and, yes, it is all about money. That's why I go to the Rockford Icehogs for hockey and not.......CHICAGO. I go to Cosley park zoo and not.....CHICAGO. I go anywhere.......and not CHICAGO!!! If possible.
Recently friends of the family came to Chicago. Spent a week checking out the museums, restaurants etc. When it was all over i asked them how they enjoyed our city. They're response was that although its a great city to visit. Tons of things to see and do. They were getting really tired of how expensive everything was. From the room taxes at the hotel, dinner prices and even boat rides on the Chicago River. They felt like everyone had their hand out and that they were constantly being taken advantage of as tourists. They visit New York City frequently and compared to that...... Chicago was twice as expensive and they won't be returning anytime soon.
And everyone expects a 'TIP' for services you've already paid for. A doorman opens a door, he wants a tip; a valet parks your car which you pay for, he wants a tip; you use a restroom in a hotel or restaurant that that has an attendant and all you did was pee, the attendant wants a tip; take a taxi and the driver wants a tip; have a doorman whistle for a taxi and he wants a tip and so on and so on!
Anyone hear that someone in the Chicago Republican government recently pushed a bill out there to try and make Chicagoland its own state? http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/illinois-republican-wants-chicago-area-51st-state-160924927.html
Yes, I did! I was thinking of making a thread about it, but figured it's too much about P&R (no R). But that whole idea of making Chicago its own state is crazy.
My son had a hockey tournament just outside the city last year. Between games we took our daughters to the American Girl store. Rode the train into the city and walked to the store. Being short on time we took a cab back to the train station. I'm a little embarassed to say I have never ridden in a cab before so I don't know how much to tip. The guy made no attempt to talk to us and was on his phone the entire time speaking another language. I think his license said he was from Somalia. The fare was $8.15 so I gave him a $10 and said keep the rest. He started yelling at me "keep the rest....(something in Arabic I think). For a bit I felt bad because i usually tend to over tip and I hate to under tip but he made no attempt to provide great service. That combined with a guy who hissed at my 5 year old daughter while walking down the street is enough reason for me to avoid Chicago entirely.

Yep, when a city fosters the growth of welfare instead of jobs, that is exactly what you get. There is a growing group of workers that are getting $$ free of taxes. That $$ is in the form of tips, working for only cash, etc..... Chicago is heading down into the toilet and it isn't going to stop anytime soon.
I'm slightly amused by all this bickering. Some of us actually live in this "horrendous" city. Voluntarily. Simply because it is one of the best places imaginable in the world. And don't get me started about Suburtopia. Actually one of the latest trends is that baby boomers are moving back into the city once their "nest" gets empty. Obviously they must like something about the city...
