Speaking of dealerships, I find it right fascinating that the original purchaser of my 308 was a Chevrolet dealer?! David Varner must have had a wild side... Image Unavailable, Please Login
We sold a lot of cars to principals of car dealerships. Many are car guys well beyond the make they sell. Also I know of one of the TRs we sold to Joe Montana was actually sold to a Buick dealership he did a lot of advertising for. Also it has been known for some sports stars to get expensive items to help teams out with their salary caps.
My 1985 GTS QV was sold by Grand Prix S.S.R. Co., 36 Route 25A, East Setauket, NY. I found in another thread ("Pix of Grand Prix SSR") that FChatter Unclehotrod13 worked there from 1978 to the mid 80s and he posted some old pics on google+. FChatter tuttebenne commented "That 512BBLM belonged to the FCA Northeast Regional President at the time. What a treasure trove of talent was Grand Prix SSR. Many careers were forged or spawned there. Ted Wenz, Doug Pirrone, the incomparable Stan Nowak, and many many more. Virtually all went on to do great things involving Ferraris" and added a link to Unclehotrod's pics: https://plus.google.com/photos/11734...40022044661841. Sadly, they closed doors I believe in the 90s, and googling the address today reveals a nondescript office building. Unclehotrod13, I'd love to track down any dealer documents related to my car, in the slim chance they still exist in a box in someone's basement! My car was sold in June '85. Please PM me if you can help, thanks.
My car was sold new at Shelton Ferrari and in one of Augustine's photos shows a black 308 GTS QV, I wish I could prove the car in his photo was mine!! That would be amazing!
Also interested in european locations? The main workshop gate of a french official dealer back in the days, when the carb 308 GTB was new. I have a stamp in my service book from them. Daverat, Bayonne, France. BTW, without wanting to hijack this thread. This car had, what I would like to have too. Yellow driving lights. But BEHIND the grille, where they do not spoil the front, like the factory option. Something, what officially never existed. Best Regards Martin Image Unavailable, Please Login
Am I allowed to play? Technically a Mondial QV is also a 308! From Lake Forest Sportscars in 1984... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Back then it was pretty standard. A year or two later they went to 12 months/unlimited and it was one of the best available.
My '86 328 GTS came from Ferrari of Walnut Creek, CA. Built in September of '85, mine is the first 328 made for US Spec Production.
Hi Alex! Now your forum name makes sense... I have another 308 sold from Melbourne Garage, a LHD late 1984 GTS QV. I believe it was exported to Canada within a year or two of being sold, I've owned it for the last 4 years. My car still has all original glass, and there is no dealership sticker on the rear window or anywhere else. I was able to find a listing for the dealership in an old Maranello Concessionaires dealer directory for UK and Ireland, which listed the Melbourne Garage Ltd as being at Route des Issues, St. John, Jersey - I found two old photos, and a suggestion that on that old location now stands an Esso gas station and an M&S grocery store! http://jerseyeveningpost.com/news/2006/06/28/new-ms-outlet-for-island/ "PUBLISHED: June 28, 2006 1:00 am New M&S outlet for Island? ANOTHER Marks & Spencer outlet is likely to be built on the site of the former Melbourne Garage in St John. ANOTHER Marks & Spencer outlet is likely to be built on the site of the former Melbourne Garage in St John. The CI Traders Group, which runs the Jersey M & S franchise, announced today that it had acquired the site for £1.5 million and would be developing a grocery retail presence there, with the 'strong possibility' that it would be Marks & Spencer." Yeah, I remember as a kid when I finally got my Dad interested in Ferrari's. We'd be looking at some amazing car in the dealership, me giddy at the thought that this would finally be the day, and then my Dad would ask about the warranty, which usually got a heavy laugh from the sales manager. Out the door we went. Then every time we went back to eye another car he'd ask again. I think at that point he would ask just to mess with them. I nearly fell over last year when someone told me new Ferrari's come with a 7 year warranty. Is that really true?
Ferrari has always come with a pretty industry standard warranty. I have no idea why you would have gotten that response. Ferrari was great in warranty coverage in earlier days. Not sure how far back you are talking but we had many times they covered stuff even out of warranty. Some dealers had issues but it had far more to do with trying to defraud Ferrari and living under a high degree of scruitiny as a result. Prior to the 90's I was very proud how they took care of warranty issues.
