I agree that a shop specializing in exotic body repair would be a better choice. Not familiar with Lambo repair costs or Diablo values. Is there any chance it is a total?

Between repair time and value loss considerations you might start asking around for names of lawyers with that kind of specialty. To most exotic owners a few months or more isn't really a big deal but I know you use yours a lot and you deserve to be compensated for loss of use in my opinion. Besides, renting you a Lambo or paying you a per diem can get their mind right in getting things done in a timely fashion.

Sorry to hear about the accident Shamile.
I am glad that You are OK.

How serious is the damage to the chassis ? I personally would not try fixing it if the chassis is bent. Too much hassle and a high risk of doing it only 99% right. So hard to make it back to perfect.

Hope Your insurance company handle this professionally.

    Cheers,
    Taffy

Hey Lambro :), when I saw the pics I was hoping it was not you, but had a bad feeling it was. Glad you're OK thats most important, cars can be repaired, it looks bad but I think repairable, with todays market price well worth repairing.

    Sorry this happened Shamile.....

Think you are taking the right approach by letting the dealer sort it out, if you don't know who a great indy is in the area.

Sad to say, but with a hit this hard it will never feel the same again (experience with a T-boned Corvette). They will fix it, but it will be different than before.

Will be curious how they establish replacement value if it comes to that. How many 70k mile 97.5 Diablo Roadsters are out there? I knew of a '99 with 55k miles a couple of years ago that was priced $60k under what an equivalent 10k mile car was at the time.

So sorry to hear this Shamile, my heart sank when I heard the rumors / saw the photos. I was very happy to hear no one was injured.

I know how passionate you are about the Diablo and how long you have had that beast.

I hope whatever you think is the best resolution is the one you get. I'm sure as you can see you have the full community's support, let us know what you need!

So sorry to hear about your misfortune also, but thankfully you were not hurt.

Please don't let them repair that car. Look at the area behind the door jamb. That area connects directly to the tube frame chassis, and I can see from the pictures that the frame is pushed in there. Sure, anything can be fixed, but it just won't be the same, because there is absolutely no doubt that the chassis is bent. Get your insurance company to pay you out properly, and buy another one. That is just my humble advice, and it is worth what you pay for it, but I am an expert and own a restoration shop and therefore believe strongly that in the long run, you will be disappointed in the car if it is repaired and not replaced. Again, just my opinion.....

sorry to see you had an accident Shamile but to all the doom mongerers amongst you - lets be honest here, that is not a hard hit.

thats a low speed impact on a moving car. Something that would have allowed a lot of the force to be bled off as the car was pushed / swerved.

lets not all forget that the Diablo is not a unitary body or a monocoque or a carbon tub - it is an old fashioned spaceframe chassis with the body panels and other parts then attached. Effectively it's old school and this allows it to be dismantled and repaired - time consuming yes, but effective and not "that" complicated (as long of course as its a good shop and they know what they're doing)

    good luck with the repairs

Once again, thanks for all the positive vibes and well wishes. I appreciate all the comments and pointers. This is a new situation to me so all the pertinent points will be brought up with my claim handler in the specialty car dept. He's used to receiving calls from me now ;)

Shamile...... Sorry to hear the news mate. Glad you are okay, and especially that the mrs wasn't the with you at the time.

Terrible to see that piece of art in such a state, hopefully the body shop will work wonders on her and get her back to good health again.

Take it easy mate, maybe talk the insurers into letting you run a murcie or aventadore roadster for a little while, it will likely finish off the old guys insurance company!

Sorry to hear of this Shamile, we all know how much you love this car and use it properly!

I've got good faith that the car will be repairable. Simon's Murcielago (of EVO fame and highest mileage Murcielago) was also repaired and his car sustained bad damage including a bent frame and warped roof.

Sorry to see this as well. Hope your insurance co. is taking good care of you.
Would be interesting to know the repair estimate when available.
If you mind sharing it, let us know.
Do you know if you are able to choose having it repaired vs getting paid in full?

When the dust settles, I will post everything. The Diablo community...especially the roadsters is extremely small. There's no use trying to hide things. You might as well put it out there. Given the newly established pricing levels, the specific history should follow the car.

We all know about the Diablo that was taken for a joy ride by landscaping company personnel and bottomed out after getting airborne.

    Man, that sucks!!

Glad you were ok and there were no others injured in the process.

As all have said, cars can be fixed or replaced.

Look at it this way, you are ok, you have a really hot girlie, and you still have a TR to drive!

Things could be a lot worse, for sure!

    Hi Shamile,

I got your PM and will respond as requested, just give me a little time as we're busy readying for Monterey historic races, et al..
Yes, I have a restoration shop, and here's the link Specialist in fine Bugatti and Pre-war restorations | Creme de la creme.
Was just a Bugatti shop when I bought it 4 years ago, but now we do all kinds of cool cars including Masers, Lambos, Ferraris, etc. Here's a Lambo we did for the Copperstate 1000 (1973 and older cutoff) last April that nobody outran!
And here's some links to a video about our shop:
