Just thought that I would liven things up a bit here I have a really nice GTSI and a friend of mine has a 360F1 Spyder in similar condition. The market seems to have settled a bit now but he has expressed interest in swapping cars outright. I do have a strong sentimental attachment to my 308 but the performance of the 360 is light years ahead of it plus I do love the looks of the 360...I am tempted to do it. What holds me back is what my 308 might be worth 5-10 years from now. What would you do??
I've been there. I took a look and a few test drives a year or so ago. I bought another 308. I actually went backwards in time and bought an older carb 308. The 360 is too powerful to enjoy legally on public roads. You hit the speed limit in 2nd gear unless you don't rev the engine. And who wants a Ferrari you rarely rev beyond 2k rpm?! The hood also scared the life out of me. Is it 12 microswitches / actuators ? I already dislike the microswitches in the 328's cabin so why would I buy more of them? It seems many people park 360s long term in winter with the hood down & this ruins the tensions. Hood therefore breaks or at best wears & tears the material. Nope, the 308 is far more elegant and enjoyable for a leisure drive. Dog leg first, click clack through the gears, wurrr of the Webers. Beautiful tactile vintage switchgear. What's not to love?! And that's before I even consider future values.
A 360 is one of the ones I would own other than my 308. I wanted a 308 since 1981 when I was 13 so my answer is "no" but if I were someone who simply liked Ferrari with no bizarre and excessive allegiance to the 308 series like I have - sure I would trade for a 360 (but only if it were a three pedal)
Nope. Sold my 308 GTB QV a few years ago with The intention of purchasing 360. Took about 6 months to regret that decision Ended the search for the 360 and started looking for a Euro QV. Now a 458 Italia? Would hand over my keys. Don't see that happening however..
When I was shopping for a Ferrari, I tried very hard to like the 360. The more modern mechanicals (and potentially less maintenance?), and higher performance appealed to me... but I just couldn't make myself fall in love with the body styling. Pricewise, there wasn't that much difference between a 360 and a 308. I don't care for the 360 convertible at all; the looks are just ... not for me. The F1 transmission would be a definite no. So - all in all, no. I wouldn't make that trade. But as Milano said, a 458 would be a fast hell yes.
I've considered this very thing, but haven't found anyone with a 360 willing to trade. But really haven't tried too hard. And when it actually came down to it I'm really not sure if I'd pull the trigger?
No thanks, unless it is a Challenge Stradale, then I will settle for an F1 box. I drove my 328 to work today. Slow and loving it.
Glad you proposed the 360 because if it were my carb GTB for a 430 my "no" would come more quickly than an F1 shift. The 360 on the other hand has a more old school appeal due to the body shape and the way the lights are done. But in the end, its still a "no" but it took a little longer to get there
Thanks for your comments fellas I am leaning the same way....NO Now a nice 430 Spyder and I would do it without hesitation
If I had no emotional attachment, then sure. If you like working on your own car - I'm not sure how possible it is to work on 360? F1 trans - NO.
If the 360 is a 6 speed manual and has complete service history and well maintained then maybe for me.
I love the 360 Spider and it's on my bucket list. But there is no way in hell I will part with my gorgeous 308 for one.
I've thought about it also but probably no. It's also about a period of time in my life when I was first introduced to the 308.
For a '99 Modena 6spd, yes, a carbed GTS would be swapped over. It's red though. Can I get a non red Modena? I'm all ears
