I suggested to Sam those FRS radios. I have 4 of them so I could loan out 3. I will be coming from East Williston. It's near Mineola. If anybody wants to hook up for the drive east let me know.

ROE NEWS UPDATE:

1) 10/11 IS THE DATE

2) We now have the following:
Andy
Barney
Gregory
Sam
Kevin
Billy
Ed
Dave
John
Rob
DES
Joshua
David
Frank
(= 12 cars).

3) I propose we all meet at Applebees off Exit 62 of the LIE, however the following has been suggested:
A) Everyone posts where they live and we might pick a different meeting place.
B) If people can get "walkie talkies" it would make car to car communication possible.

I have a feeling off exit 62 will be the best as it is a sort of gateway to "out east."

Perhaps we can meet around 11:00 AM, then hit a winery on the north fork at around 12.
We would have a late lunch on Shelter Island around 2. We are on the way off Shelter Island around 4 or so.
Barney may have a winery picked out.
Restaurant suggestions on Shelter Island:

Planet Bliss
Shelter Island/Shelter Island Heights
23 N. Ferry Rd. (Duval St.) Shelter Island, NY, 11964 (631) 749-0053

OR

Chequit Inn
Shelter Island/Shelter Island Heights
23 Grand Ave. (Waverly Pl.) Shelter Island Heights, NY, 11965 (631) 749-0018

OR??

All of these are merely suggestions, of course. Make your own and we can see if there is a consensus for a different agenda.
Thanks
Sam

Dave, i did...? Oh, man... i'm seriously having some very troubling memory problems... Geez... Anyone have any idea how short term memory loss this bad can occur in a 24 year old...?

Ok, back on topic; 10/11 is the tentative date...?

but honestly, i dont really care about keeping my car waxed etc, but look and dont touch, if that was my enzo, hell even with my vette i dislike when people touch it....you can always tell car enthusiasts, they look at cars with their arms behind their backs, camera's everything not swinging in the air giving the owner a heart attack...Look but dont touch :-)

I really appreciate what I have, I don't take it for granted, and I take care of what I own. Still, there is no point in putting things on a shelf. For example, I bought a Franklin Mint Ice Cream Truck. Beautiful model from when I was a kid. Well, my three year old got a hold of it and did what 3 year olds will do. But he gets more enjoyment out of it then I ever will as a mere display piece. Same with the Ferrari. I let friends who are enthusiasts drive it. Sharing it is what the true pleasure is.

No, Dave, you're absolutely right; , now that i think about it, (i'm so unintentionally rude), i never invited you in that day you came to pick me up; i would love to have shown you my model collection... Please excuse me, sometimes my manners just evaporate; my apologies...

You're right, my model collection has a huge worth to me and, as you said, anyone who ever sees it is more than welcome to take the cars off the shelf, open the doors, play with it, slap it around, whatever- that's why they're all out of the boxes, sitting on the shelf and the dressers; anyone wants to really check 'em out, they can...

As far as relationships go, you're right on that, too... i have some invaluable relationships that i could never, ever put a price on...

If i had an Enzo, i'd like to believe that i'd just toss the keys to a friend and say, "yeah, sure, take it for a spin..." but at the very least i would most certainly NOT yell at ANYONE for being NEAR the car...

The Enzo - especially the black one - has so much more meaning to me than just being a car but compared to a human being, it's just a car. A scratch can be buffed out, a dent can be banged out or however they do it with carbon fiber; there's no reason to put more value on an object than on a person.

"I just don't own anything worth anything" . . .how untrue. I would hope your model collection is worth something to you(I'm not speaking of monetary value, because it's irrelevant and I'm not counting your personal relationships which as the commercial says; are priceless). But, I'm sure if someone came over who you had never met and showed interest in your most cherished model, you would pick it up and hand it to them and say "sure have a look, open the doors, etc). Personality traits don't change that much in people. You are, what you are.

You know what Dave, i'd love to agree with you but i can't... Not because i don't, but because i just don't own ANYTHING worth anything... However, i always tell myself if i can ever have a Ferrari - an Enzo or whatever, i'll always be kind to people; i'll always stop for enthusiasts just as i know what it's like to be an enthusiast...

i can understand being nervous about someone inadvertently messing up a car while admiring but yelling at someone seems a little uncalled for... i don't know the whole situation, but if someone was "CLOSE" to the car and this guy started yelling, well, then... that's not cool... i thought people buy these cars to have fun...? Why do some of them then seem so uptight...? It's confusing...

First I will say this, I know it is an expensive car. This guy was so worried about anybody approaching the thing. Yelled at a couple of people for just barly touching it. S--- I have been near cars worth 20X this thing and one of maybe a few, not hundreds and the folks have been great saying things like "sit in it if you like". I have no tolerance for crybabies and overprotective mothers. JMO

Sam
Sorry I have been out for a few days. I will be seeing my father tonight and I will let you know about a winery (if that is still in the plans) if you have not yet done so. A rain date is tough with everyones schedule. The 12th is Columbus Day and the Japan Grand Prix, so that might be a bad rain date - unless we could end up somewhere to watch the GP?????? Anyway, I sent some e-mails out tonight so we will see if anyone else is interested. I skipped those who responded in the thread.

I meant "bringing."
How's 10/11 for people? It is Columbus day weekend, but that may be appropriate.

We were just on Shelter Island for a wedding....The ferry was somewhat tight, but not enough so that we were worried about opening doors, etc. The folks that run the ferry are nice guys.....we chatted with them the whole way over....I bet a simple request and a smile would find us on our own boat.....at the very least, they run often enough (every 15 minutes or so) that we could probably get our own ferry over anyway...especially when we add the other cars in the caravan....I can offer my Pilot to the mix, which seats 7-8 or 6 and lots of guinness......:^)

The transition from the dock to the boat was smooth, plenty of clearance.....

I'm very open on dates.......

Gregory, The shelter island ferries are very small. Only a few cars at a time. You don't even get out of your car.

Sam, next weekend and the weekend of 10/18 is no good for me. Other than that, it sounds like a great plan to me. Please count me in.

I'll emailing you my contact info offline.

I understand Gregory. My experience on the Ferry is that people are extra careful because it is tight AND you stay with your car. Lastly, the odds are you will be next to another F car if there are enough of us (it is a small ferry).

Sounds like fun, but the ferry idea makes me a little nervous. Not getting on or off but the other cars you might wind up next to. You know people have no respect for other cars, just look at the doors of any car that is regularly parked at the local mall.

OK, we now have the following:

Andy
Barney
Gregory
Sam
Kevin
Billy
Ed (11/1 NG)
Dave (10/1-10/7 NG)
(= 7 cars).

PS
Thanks Dave and Ed for providing info on your schedule. We need everyone to do the same. Like Ed, I need to consult my "social director."
I don't think the clearance on the ferries will be an issue. I've been on them many times. It is the only way to drive on or off the island. They have a flat ramp that goes right in the boat.
Looks like we may have a nice turnout for this.

Sam, Count me in too. I presume we are talking about a weekend. I won't be around the weekend of 11/1. I have to check with my social coordinator (my wife) for other unavailable dates. I wonder how the clearance is getting on and off the ferries? Last fall my daughter had a soccer game on Shelter Island and we ate at a reasonable place there. I'll find out what it was.

Thought this might be worth a new thread.
For the ROE (Run Out East):
As people express an interest, try to give as many dates that are good for you as possible.
Feel free to suggest times and routes, as well as places for pit stops. My $.02: I like the winery(s) tour idea. Up the North side, a ride on the Shelter Island Ferry, then back on the South side.
If there are enough people, I could call ahead to wineries and tell them (warn them?) we are coming. Could also make lunch reservations someplace (Shelter Island?) I can see the pics now: A literal boat load of "Ferraris on the Ferry"
4 so far. I'll try to keep track.
