The UPS show is coming up next weekend, October 13th, Saturday. If you guys remember, I posted this comparison last year: "Ok, so you guys all went to the Rockville show. I'm sure there was lots of tinkling of champagne glasses and brie cheese with baguettes floating around. I know there were some lovely cars parked out in the field with beautiful people tittering about.

Let me tell you about what you missed at the UPS show. We had T & A, semis doing burn outs, GTOs with outrageous double blowers. We had custom paint jobs and demons and Caddies spewing out flames!

You had your Rolls Royces and little chevies driven to church every Sunday by some hat wearing old lady who liked to knit.

We had a Packard built on a C6 chassis, a portable dyno with guys beating their iron on it to prove their manhood! We had a burnout contest with concrete barriers! I drove a 600hp + custom/purpose built 1941 Willys with a blown 454 that burn rubber everytime you touched the accelerator!

But on a serious note, I would have liked to go to the Rockville show, but...

    I AIN'T NO SISSY! ; )"

this is a hot rod show, hands down. There is a small Rice burner lot by the vendors inhabited by your usual modified cars plus some extreme imports which are pretty cool to look at. However, it the hot rods that are rocking. There will be over 1600 cars there this year. There is no cost to attend. I'm sure they will have the same burn out contest around 2. Lots of fun and noise, and throw in a copple of thongs as well!

Hope to see some of you there.

    regards

    ken

    Thread from last year

Don't just visit -- bring your cars! I plan to be there with the Elise again and could use some company :). Last year there was a handful of European stuff but not a single Italian car that I noticed. Also, stay to watch the burnout contest! Yeah it's not until really late in the day (and most of the cars will have left) but it's the most exciting part of the show.

I think last year it coincided with Dave Toy's cookout. Or was it the Rockville car show? Anyhow I seem to remember there was a conflict of some sort. But this year no conflict.... Maybe we can make a showing of F-cars? Ken help us out?

I'll talk to Jim Lanham, who runs the show for UPS. I'll try to cook up a spot for the Italian boys. It would probably necessitate everyone getting there in a group and not very late. With 1600 cars to load up in the lots, there's alot of traffic congestion.

    regards

Also: for those who are familiar with the Holy Donut, this is very close to there. Coming from I-95, exit to 198W as usual and then take the very first left instead of continuing the mile or two to Burtonsville.

If it's the same arrangement as last year, this was one of the good things about having an import. The import lot was down by the main building and used a different entrance which was completely line-free. I still had to deal with the general backup on Sweitzer from 198, though, so this year I may try to be sneaky about it and come up Sweitzer from Van Dusen instead.

Is there a website for info on this show?

Can you just show up or do you have to register?

This might be a good show to drive the '72 Bronco?

There's no real website for the show. It is mentioned in various forums. Jim the organizer is calling me on Monday. He is looking for judges if anybody is interested. You don't have to be an expert, just understand what looks cool and appealing. A few friends did it last year and enjoyed it. With 1600 cars, they need some help.

As far as showing the Bronco, I'm sure there is a truck class if you wanted to spend the whole day at the show.

    regards

Just got an email back from Jim, the organizer. He said sure on the Ferrari parking thing. However, if you guys want to do it, I would try to arrive as a pack and not too late. The import lot filled up last year. I'm going to get there around 7 am or so. I'm setting up a both in the vendor area for my photography stuff. I should have my ratty Lincoln in my display with me and maybe two other cars. Stop by and say hello.

    regards

Is anybody interested in judging? It would be a real help to Jim. He is always short on judges with too many cars to go thru.

My father is coming up from NC, and we'll be there spectating. I'll be easy to spot in the parking lot, a very yellow ASC/McLaren convertible. If you see it/me, smack me and say hi!

Its 6:03 and I'm leaving the house to get setup. I'll be in the vendors area with my white 64 lincoln and surrounded by a bunch of photography. (I have the white whale filled with my table and framed pieces so it going to be a cold ride with that top down!) Call me at 240-372-5007 if the Ferrari bunch is going to show up. I will try to scout for parking but it all will depend upon when you arrive. There is a possibility to get a section but its all in the timing .

    Hope to see you there!
