I just got back from the 08 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. What a great trip. Don't ever speed in southern Virginia. I did not get a ticket but saw 15 speed traps and 22 people pulled over.

The concours was as amazing as ever. There were 300 cars in attendance with some very nice Ferraris showing up. I ran in Marcel which is always a pleasure. He drove someone's car to the field but at this point, I can't remember.

Anyway, here is the start of what amounted to 1400 photos in 2 days.

    regards

Looks like a stellar event. The second pic, is that Boano or Ellena?

Sorry, don't agree. Ellena has the high roof and no wind-wing.

I should not spout off about that of which there are others with greater knowledge. I just looked in the program, 58 250 gt Ellena.

    Thanks Ed!

One of the classes this year was Beach Racers. There's a Maryland collection that contains a 1922 Benz Mercedes aero engines car that raced on the beaches of Denmark and elsewhere in the 20's. The car was invited back to Denmark 5 years ago where it was piloted to its original speed of 120 mph on the same beach, some 80 odds years previously.

The motor is a Mercedes 19 liter total oil loss meaning it spews stuff all over the place. Truly a magnificent machine.

Here are a couple shots of corvettes and cobras. I managed to get in early on Sunday morning by hopping in a mint, 6000 mile all original 427 Cobra owned by a fellow from upstate NY. The car was gorgeous.

I really loved seeing the 2 Grand Sport Corvettes. Talk about a rare car.

    cheers

That dark blue 427 cobra has the best license plate I've ever seen! A must have for the owner of an original 427 cobra.

Did the Cobra get a chance to stretch it's legs any while you were a passenger? Also, looks like a tight fit. Are you rather tall or is it just that cramped?

The house I stayed at on St Simon's island was incredible. More importantly, the host was wonderful. We traveled to Amelia together on Saturday after watching his son compete in a cub scout model car race. I really enjoyed meeting he and his family. We had a great time together. It sure beat sleeping in the van!

Here are some pictures from the backyard and 2 from the beach. I got up Saturday morning at 5 to go catch the sunrise at the beach then came back and took some pictures in the backyard. I love that Spanish Moss.

Great pictures. Amelia Island is beautiful, even without all of the exotic and classic cars. I usually try to get there once a year, it is one of Florida's best kept secrets.

Well...I'm 6ft3 and the owner is not a small person. Plus, I had 2 chairs and my backpack on my lap. It was a tight squeeze with all that stuff. And unfortunately no, she did not get to streach her legs at all. And that was the problem, she overheated as we pulled on to the field. Steam and everything. The Cobra sure sounded nice. She had the small rear exhaust, not the big SC side pipes.

Here are the Trans Am pictures. Saturday was the auction which was crowded and sort of boring. What was really cool was when I found the tractor trailor parking with all the cool cars unloading. The trans am cars came together and all unloaded at the same time. They then paraded on to the fleid, filling the air with exuberant, lusty open header V-8 noise. It was awesome seeing and hearing those guys thump onto the show field. I spoke to one of the owners. He said that he hadn't driven his Mustang since June. Firing it up and driving to the field was like falling in love all over again.

    regards
