Try renaming your file to the last 6 numbers of your VIN, maybe that will do it...I have a email into toggie telling him of the problem..
FYI, the picture upload problem was fixed last night. Problem was a bug when FireFox or Safari browsers were being used. The web module was adjusted to be more compatible with browser differences. Take a look at post #10 in this thread if you want more info on it: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=194542
Thanks, my FireFox did it today. Any option to delete pictures if we like to replace them with better ones? cinque
I think this may be a better place to put this response and observation. I think the site is a fantastic one and 285Ferrari is to be commended 110% May i just comment on two things that i think may cause potential problems in the future, that may be caught now in the early stages. The first is that anyone can post pictures under any car section, with out discrimination. This can be wide open to abuse, ie some Fchat 348 joker could post a picture of a 348 Or even some one who has stumbled across the site and is anti Ferrari, may post an offensive picture on any one else's section. This may be anything from porn to even a picture of a crashed Red 355 that may taint the reputation of the Red car that's section its in. Can the sctions not be limited to only certain number of picture only and then the facility cuts of? How about some system which you have to confirm you are the current owner of the car? Also i noticed that there are one or two pictures of ladies cheeky bums posing in the pictures with little or no view of the car in shot. Now look although this is great from a guys point of view. We have to remember that this is a serious 355 information bank that the serious 355 future buyer will be scanning. And this may include women. Sorry for the suggestions 285ferrari, its just that i want as much as anyone else to see this great commodity of a 355 register to grow into the greatness it deserves I have no idea how to even suggest how to remedy the problems i have pointed out. But i am sure both you and your programmer can come up with an answer. After all i remember very well the first thread on here when you came up with the idea a few years ago. And what seemed like an up hill battle has now produced great fruit.
Well, if some approved mods can delete pics and other users can edit data the site works similar to wikipedia. A hassle might occur around cars flagged as crashed. cinque
Great idea. There is now a new pushbutton called "Delete Photo" next to the "Add Photo" button. It will show you a two lists of pics for the car (left and right sides of the page). The left list are the current active pics. Each pic has a "Delete" link on it which, if clicked, will "soft delete" that picture. The right list is the list of "soft deleted" pics. Each one of those has an "Undelete" link on it. Give it a try. Any pics you delete can then be undeleted. You'll also see a "Return to View Car" pushbutton which takes you back to the View Car web page where the current set of active pics is visible for the car. Be advised that if one of your pictures totally disappears and cannot be undeleted, then Robbie (285Ferrari) has permanently removed it from the website. He has a webmaster module that shows him the latest uploaded pics and if he determines they are not appropriate for the website, he can perform a remove action on them. The screen snapshot below shows the new "Delete Photo" button on it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
So does this mean that anyone can just delete any ones pictures?? I hope not because then it will be open to a PC terrorist attack
Good points. I be "the programmer" of whom you speak. Robbie (285Ferrari), as the webmaster, has a module that shows him the latest uploaded pics and if he determines they are not appropriate for the website, he can perform a permanent remove action on them. There is a technical limit of 999 pictures per VIN. This max number per VIN includes all soft deleted pics too. If some day this upper limit needs to be expanded, it would not be too difficult to do that, although I can't think we'll ever need to do that. Early in the design process, Robbie and I discussed whether we should require a user login on the website in order to post car data or upload pics. One option was to do it like ferrarichat. That is, confirm the supplied user's email id through a sent email with a verification link in it. We could then keep a cookie on the user's PC so that they would not have to re-login every time they went to the registry website (once again, similar to fchat). Both of us felt that requiring a user login can be viewed as a real negative on a lot of websites. Often, when a website makes me register in order to do the next step (e.g. like view a white paper), I'll sometimes just give up and say it isn't worth it. So, instead of a user login we came up with the two mechanisms Robbie uses to review new car entries or car data updates and the recent picture upload review process. Each new car entry and data update gets staged in a webmaster system for Robbie to approve or reject before that data is seen by the public users. And, he reviews a list of recently uploaded pics to see if any of them need to be removed. I don't claim this is a perfect mechanism but it makes using the website as a public user as easy as possible. The other complication this avoids is when someone sells a car to another person. If we locked down the car to a single user, then we'd have to create a "change car's owner" process so that the new owner could update the data and post new pics. Given this background info, I'm interested in hearing more feedback on ways we could make it the best registry website for everyone involved. BTW, I'm also working on Potxoli's 348 Registry and my own future 430 Registry also. These registries share many common software components so good ideas for one typically can be shared across them.
The short answer to the question is "yes". Although, realize that someone would have to do a lot of web page clicking to delete other people's pictures. Also, they are not permanently deleted, rather they are soft deleted and it would not be too difficult to restore them all (could be done in a few seconds time using a database program for any soft deletes that were performed within a specific date range).
Hey Robbie, Resized 2 photos and followed your directions. Worked like a charm. Thanks for your efforts on the registry.
I will slowly over the next few weeks be pulling all the pics from this thread into the actual registry itself-----If you have other pics for your specific car you would rather have in the registry please send them in email to me or upload them in the proper format... Thanks!! As of now well over 200 pics in the actual registry there to view!!
Compliments to toggie, it works really smooth. Quite mighty though, guess we need something like a 'report abuse' button some day. (just in case owners disagree with pics uploaded by some Punchinello) cinque
