I pulled up next to a red 1992 Ferrari F40 earlier today at an intersection in my hometown of Reno, NV. A VERY rare sight! Awesome car!

    Can't be FREFAN--the boost gauge isn't pegged in the 4th photo ;-)

I'm truthfully not sure. I believe he said he put on the LM exhaust whatever that is.

I'm sure he will answer here.

    Sounds like LM pipes.

Hi all, yes they are LM pipes. With regards to exhaust, the car was very quiet in stock form. So I replaced the muffler with LM pipes. Shortly thereafter I started having slow down lights, which had nothing to do with the LM pipes, it was purely coincendental, and a very long story that I wont bore you with. Long story short I decided to replace the cats with hyperflows, and they didn't fit (no fault of Troy's, or any lack of trying. This is still a work in progress, he has my OEM cats and is making some new ones for me, another long story). So in the interim, David Helms of Scuderia Rampante, the almighty F40 god of all gods, built some custom pipes for me, to get my by for now. The setup is working very nicely, it is very loud (which doesn't bother me), and the video clips don't even demonstrate half of what it sounds like on the street. Its a sound you hear even after the ignition is off, in your sleep, for many days afterwords...

Harry, the funniest thing, all pics of the boost gauge when at full boost, produced only pics of the headliner. Its a very strange and still unexplained phenomenon ... ;)

NOWW I know it is you!! Tell me this Mike. Did you have to have the boost adjusted after the LM pipes were installed?

No Harry it wasn't necessary. However, someone played around with the wastegate before I got it, and David Helms was able to get it back to its stock settings. Its a bit of a black art, I don't know how he does it, but its working perfectly.

Not to beat a dead horse. Do you know if the wastegate settings were the same with the stock exhaust as compared with the LM's? I've heard time and again how the free flow leads to higher boost pressures as compared to stock and some tinkering is needed to avoid overboost and potential detonation...

I replaced the muffler with the LM pipes and there was no change needed, I drove it about 500 miles that way, and the car ran exactly the same as before. Honestly I don't think the stock muffler adds enough backpressure to make any difference. I have the small turbos btw. LM turbos, or cat removal, etc, may be a different story. In my case I had David correct the cam timing, custom exhaust, and inspect/clean/rebuild the wastegate all at once. Its a real black art watching him work. The wastegate is giant spring that must be loaded to a very precise pressure, which is not documented by Ferrari. So someone needs a lot of experience to know what they are doing, because they can be damaged and difficult (if not impossible) to replace. In my case, since David had to take my wastegate apart anyway, he first gets it back to factory setting as close as possible, then does a series of drives and micro adjustments until the boost light just flickers at a specific RPM in a specific gear. Then does more micro adjustments. My car is running perfectly with a free flow exhaust. But back to your question, I don't think wastegate adjustment is needed to just use LM pipes. The computer monitors the boost output and controls the opening of the wastegate so I don't think there is any concern with overboost detonation. What would happen, as I understand it, is with a 100% free flowing exhaust (or bigger turbos) is the computer would open the wastegate all the way, rather suddenly, instead of gradually. The result would be a bucking like feeling, not smooth like it should be.
