For some reason, the digital clock in my 1993 348 will not remain at the time that I set it. A few months ago I set it dead even with my Blackberry, then the other day I noticed it was 5 minutes fast. It has happened several times since October. Any suggestions?

I think it is a minor miracle that it is working in the first place and not "0.00". :D

On a more serious note, I believe the blackberry time is inaccurate - I synchronized my BB with my computer and now it is running 4 minutes slow.

    Buy a Honda :)

Seriously the fact that it's only 5 minutes fast over a few months is impressive.

Consider yourself lucky. All mine does is flash "11:26" endlessly . . . unless I reset it. Then it will endlessly flash the new time.

Mine runs fast -- picks up about 5 minutes per month.

Doesn't really matter. When I'm driving the Fcar, I'm usually not in a hurry to get anywhere...

Some owners have more troubles with their AC/Heat control panel, although cleaning the connector contacts on the back often seems to help. I have had problems trying to reset the clock, but everything else works fine, so I'm happy! I did buy a good spare panel on eBay just in case :)

Mine is flashing and reads "0.00". I can set it, but it will evenetually start flashing again at some point. I am about to try and findout why, I've already checked the connection at the back of the AC control box.

Guys, you're all warping the time-space continuum when you hit the gas pedal. If you accelerate harder you'll gain time, when you brake harder you lose time. Unless you live in a moving car you'll have to decelerate as much as you accelerate and thus should add up to a zero sum game. When are you looking at the clock?

    ;-) Easter humor...

My clock constantly flashes 0.00, and just as a bonus all the other instruments flash in time!!

I think I know the answer to this before I ask but here goes anyway, Is it possible to replace just the clock or do I need a whole panel?

    Best Regards
    Andy E

Yup - the whole panel. You can try taking the panel off and cleaning the wire connectors/contacts on the back.

When I bought my 348, the previous owner told me that the clock didn't work because it always flashed zeros. What he failed to realize is that when you switch off the battery power (which he did) for periods of non-use, you have to reset the clock, DUH!

I a surprised that no one has a fix for this or at least a replacement kit. With all the ingenuity that has been shown on this board already, fixing an onboard clock would seem mundane at best.

Most digital clocks use a 32.768kHz crystal as their time base. These typically have an initial error (at room temp.) of about 100ppm. Over one month's time, this can result in an error of over 4 minutes. Any temperature change from room temperature also adds an error that could make the other error worse or a little better. So, a few minutes a month error is nothing unusual.
