Sure you can, buy a new speedo lol! Its sad to say but this car probably shows its true miles unlike most out there.
I had a money tree in my backyard, but a storm blew it down so now I just like cars that don't need $30k in work done on them. MB
I was afriad this might be the return of 'Slimey John'....LOL! You know that place is across the street from where "you know who" works and I'm REALLY trying to steer clear of her, although my #22127 is being tuned right next door! Indeed a small, small world! On the up side, this might be a solid car that just needs, oh.......$25K of love, to be nice!
IMVHO...I hesitate to comment/editiorialize because everyone has their own way of doing things, none better, none worse, but, FWIW, this is how you ad strikes me... The ad sounds like it's being sold by someone who does not know much about Ferraris...OR...it's being marketed to people who know nothing about Ferraris. Neither option is good...imvho. "GETS AN INCREDIBLE 22-24 MPG ON THE HWY" No one buys a Ferrari as an economy car. That mkt of buyers won't be swayed. "This car is ready to cross the country but keep in mind, like any exotic or collectible car, things can and do go wrong so I offer no guarantees or implied warrantees" - too me, and this may be ONLY to me...it sounds as if this is a warning that you know of something that could go wrong. That's true of all cars. No need to say it. just as a general observation...I think it sounds as if you are trying to hard to sell the car to someone who doesn't know anything about Ferraris. And that can cause people who do know something about ferraris to wonder about why you are doing that. Just "no one important's" 2 cents worth. Seriously...good luck with the sell. I hope it sells! It really does look like a good car....when you read between the lines of the ad.... sometimes...less is more
Well, to be honest, it didn't NEED 30 K of work to make it a serviceable driver; maybe 6-7K was needed deferred maintenance. The rest is because I wanted it perfect and re-did the car.
I apologize to the OP in advance if this is not the case. I just read through the 2006 post on this car. As a former Houstonian and a Univ. of Houston Alumni, my morbid curiosity had me reading the entire thread from 2006. The way the OP started this thread and then defended the description of the car sounds very familiar...sorta like the original seller from 2006...maybe? Probably not, but just a feeling. When I had my Alfa's in Houston, I took them to Dallas to get worked on by Robert Rogers. After getting burned by Klaus in Houston and then the former Alfa dealership, I just went with what I knew to be a sure thing...Robert. As a result, I'm not very familiar with the Italian car sales/service guys in Houston and this Classic Motorcars or whatever sounds like another bad apple that I luckily avoided.
I too remember the 2006 thread and after reading it had no regrets about being so critical when searching for mine. I just hope that it isnt sold to an honest enthusiast. Its best left to the dealers to pass it amongst themselves. Did you notice that the new add leaves off the statement The last major this car had was at 46K so you should have no issues driving this for at least another 10K before you need to start worrying about another service. If he is a dealer, shame shame. If hes an enthusiast, bummer. Did you guys see this post of re-dyed parts for sale? http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=227576
This guy is so shady its ridiculous...good reminder to anyone to make sure to get a PPI and not trust sellers outright. Check out his post: and then the ebay ad says: "I have my mechanics pull the covers and visually inspect the belts at each service so not to ever worry. "
Search is a ghost in the closet. Apparently, he left this accident out of the Ebay ad also. "A SIMILAR TRUCK BACKED INTO MY 328 2 MONTHS AGO. THE DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO THE DRIVERS FRONT FENDER BUT LOOKED SIMILAR TO YOUR DAMAGE. MY LOCAL BODYSHOP HAMMERED THE DENT OUT TO THE POINT WHERE IS WAS PERFECT. IT HAD A NASTY CREASE THAT I THOUGHT "NO WAY" WOULD THEY BE ABLE TO DO IT WITHOUT FILLER. NOW THE CAR HAS GOT JUST THE FACTORY SPEC COAT OF FILLER OVER THE DAMAGE AND HAS BEEN REPAINTED AND YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW THERE WAS ANY DAMAGE. THE HOOD HAD A SCRACT AND THE FIBERGLASS NOSE HAD A CHIP IN IT AND HE REPARED ALL THAT DAMAGE FOR $3400.00. A SUPREMELY WELL DONE JOB. NO PANEL REPLACEMENT." Sounds "cherry " to me.
Well, at some point guys here will realize even a good car will not sell for much $$$ nowadays UNLESS it is a super low miles concourse garage queen (and what is the point of owning that imho?).
Good point. Here's a question; I had the 328 at a car show in Baton Rouge a few weeks ago and met a man that has an 89 328 that was apparently bought new and then put in storage. The car has 79 miles on it (red/tan car, not the one that's always for sale in Canada) He was asking me what I thought a car like that would sell for in this market. I really had no idea.
the problem with the car first and foremost was/is the buy it now price. It's way too high. Most people who are in the market for the lower-priced used Ferrari's, ie, middle class income earners, are the exact demographic who are suffering the credit/job collapse the most. This car has no market.
Yeah, he knows better than that, he said it himself less than 2 months ago: "Mine is not due for 10K more miles but it is beyond the 5 year limit which means I should be planning this very soon." http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=237299 Buying these old cars is like walking through a minefield. It's buyer beware, on steroids. I guess that's part of the challenge/fun, though. I looked long distance at a Ferrari around January, the dealer made all kinds of representations on really basic things (original paint, no bodywork, drives great, etc.) to try to sell it "sight unseen." Luckily I didn't quite trust them and had a PPI done. Well, actually, the PPI was only started, after an hour or so the shop called and had a list of problems so long they'd figure they'd just stop there, bill me for an hour of time, and save me some money. Turns out the car also had some completely fabricated service records, too, for things like a major service. Ouch. Somebody else did eventually end up buying the car, cross country, sight unseen.
On eBay, that little text that says 'Reserve not met' is a big turn off to me and many others. When I've used reserve I've always posted the reserve amount of the reserve because of that...somehow it signifies an enormous minimum amount. Plus ebay makes unreal an fees for the reserve. Almost best to not use reserve and pull the car if the amount isn't met.
Funny how good the memory of the users here are vs. the memory of the guy who actually owns the car. Lemme see... Thread discussing the general condition of the car two years ago that the current owner missed, with the car's vin in the thread making a search easy. His own threads discussing the car needing a major, having a set of redyed seats and a fender bender. OOPS. Just a few details he left out in a thread that was a thinly disguised effort to get some traction for his car on ebay, or here for that matter. What a great plan. Post a thread complaining that no one wants his pristine auto, leaving out all the bad stuff that can be found here with a simple search that proves it is not quite pristine after all. We should sticky this thread as an example of how little a seller can get past the gang here. Nice job guys. DM
Conjured visual is that of a ravaged chicken bone slowly sinking to the river bottom, bits of detritus falling with it, as a group of piranhas recedes from the scene
So now given all the information he has been given here the seller is just outright lying in his ad on eBay. " know that it has no known mechanical or visual issues - no dyed interior, no rust, nothing. A very honest car" He went from possibly ignorant of the facts to another bogus eBayer.
Good thing the car is honest. I didn't wade back through all the posts - still enjoying my morning coffee - but I seem to recall he actually bought old seats out of some salvaged vehicle... so they MIGHT not be redyed, thus if you bob and weave around that little fact, you actually flirt with the circumvented truth. (This makes him potentially qualified for Congress.) However, "no nothing" is a long way from oil in the water, service due, accident history, and a few other things. Methinks there's been enough truth exposed to seek an extension for our 10 foot poles. If you want your blood pressure to go up, re-read the indignation of the first post. Life just ain't FAIR! Wow. Fchat pays off. And Ducowti, you need to be in creative writing or arranging movie scenes; a powerful visual!
"Fchat pays off." AHudson You can say that again! For a moment I thought about this car even thought it didn't "sound right" initially. Now after we released the hounds and fleshed out the truth my $15 has yielded $ xx,000s in savings. Best investment yet in the last 12 months.
Well, the OP is now trying the DFW area for some prospects: http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/1182376882.html
Here is the post trying to sell the old seats: Re-dyed parts for sale. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=227576
