Imagine if that was a LP400, Lowbody or Downdraft in that condition!

Just for the heck of it...does anyone know the production numbers of the US QV Injected cars and the QV Downdraft cars? I had heard that there are many more QV Downdrafts???

 

Well all the Euro cars were Downdraft.

Most if not all the FI cars were US cars.

So it's a question of how many US cars.

Sorry in advance for the “dumb” question but I see posts talking about “triple white”. I understand double (exterior/interior) but what is triple? Is this one considered to be triple white?

The car looks great!

Out of 610 QVs said to be built (add a few to that number for good measure) the fuel-injected cars were about one third of production.

 

the FI sure are more rare than DDs....not to say the US slower versions are more desirable

EMILIO, Thanks for the compliment...I'm all for the Euro DD cars, as you can see by my conversion of the US bumpers to Euro spec...but I'd have to say that being only 35 HP and 2-3 tenths of a second apart at a currently considered slow 0 - 60 time for both cars, should'nt be the benchmark of being desirable? Rarety is usually marked in numbers of cars, not 0 - 60...if that were the case, the LP400 "only" did 0 -60 in 5.6 compared to the US QV @ 5.1...not many LP400's though, hey. The Countach "performance" days are long gone history compared to todays cars. I bet the US FI cars go a little better after knocking off 200 lbs or so of bumpers?

 

in real life the difference is bigger than on papers, but there are upgrades that make FI QVs as fast as DD
this said i am with you the performance figures are not THAT important on a 25 years old car ..it is not the point

there is more than the hp difference though: the look, sound and feel of carbs

It is true, no stock factory Countach, is going to run away from the latest hot Ford Mustang. Certainly, the Countach is not the only factory older performance car, to face the modern gee-wiz cars. If you want the best performance and feel, the organ-donor bikes are the only way to go. Just drop the Hayabusa down two gears, twist the throttle, and hang on for your life.

 

It's interesting to read about FI versus DD with the Countach.
At the same time, Porsche was converting their cars from CIS to L-Jet to pass stricter US emissions. Meanwhile Lamborghini was going from DD to CIS.

 

+1 on that. I have a 2004 Aprilia Futura which is rated at 114HP. And that is MORE than enough for me! If you jump on the throttle to hard, the front end comes right up off the ground!

I can't imagine the latest offering from MV Agusta (the F4 RR 312 1078 with 190HP!!!). I might make a mess in my pants with that kind of power!

It's probably not good to talk about bikes. I had a Ducati 900 ss years ago. That was the coolest mechanical thing I have ever owned. Italian, red, a early Sp white frame version. Bigger sprocket, changed jets, K&N, Supper traps. At 100 it sounded like a big block Corvette with side pipes. Dry clutch. What a sound. Never broke down. I need another one.

I was surprised how reliable the 748 Ducati was. The bike ran excellent without a single issue. It did not have too much power on the top end. It is a fun bike. The new Benelli I had, broke down on the first ride ! Hello Benelli - good bye Benelli.

The numbers are skewed if you're talking world wide production. DD's carry a premium because they represent the factories
genuine plan for the car. An increase in performance, especially sound is just a bonus. Most FI cars are in the US while there are only
maybe 25dd's....(actual number might not ever be known for sure, but rare). Keeping in mind that the very few FI cars that are overseas
Do Not carry any premium for being "rare".

 

I agree 100% Ken. I do think this one carries a premium with it also, due to the condition.
