Anyone know anything about this car? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200375273738&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:VRI I am looking for an older Ferrari (Daytona or Dino) and this car looks interesting....
It's interesting that such an elaborate dealer ad would not include any engine compartment photos. It does look like a wonderful car, however. Fred
I wish that there were a way to discern how many Dinos have been re-upholstered with Daytona-style seats. They are very nice, but I don't understand the need of so many Dino owners to "upgrade" to that specification. Fred
I know this car...I saw it being restored when I visited the dealer in Ft Lauderdale. I forget the name of the place but it was on Las Olas Blvd(maybe davie blvd) in Ft Lauderdale. They had some fabulous cars but the area was a little funky (hookers etc). I was taken to the warehouse & the car was being restored. The salesman that I spoke with was a great guy & the owner of the shop was a long time sports car pro. I can't remember the name Ft Lauderdale motorcar or something like that- people here will know it. I think the salesman was Dutch. He was very knowledgeable & knew what he was talking about. The car had been repainted & was being reupholstered. I subsequently spoke to the woman who did the upholstelry work by phone with a question on how to do my dino dash and she helped me quite a bit in redoing my own dino . The car was being redone to suit the tastes of a ceo of one of the local Cruise Ship companies as he had bought the car. I loved the car. It was probably 6 or so years ago. It was gorgeous!!
Doesn't. If the option was available at the time, I think it can enhance value in some instances. From a concours standpoint, as long as the color is one that was available when it left the factory it's ok. Same applies for the interior, change is ok, as long as you go with something that would have been available from the factory. Putting a Daytona interior in a 1970 Euro car would be a no-no, as the interior option wasn't available until 1972, I think. I'm not crazy about the color, maybe better in person? Can't explain it but the paint looks really thick in the photos, might be an optical illusion though. DM
Ok who is the "expert" that I can talk to about what options were available at the time this car was made. I am interested in it and it is located within 30 minutes of me. The problem is that I don't know these cars at all... I can get a local expert to do a ppi but I want a car that is correct and not a clone
Contact Martin at Cavallino Motors in Miami, FL. He's a regular here and knows these cars. Could do a fly by and a PPI for you I'm sure. his user ID is Cavallino Motors here. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/member.php?u=1285 Dave M.
Car is a 74, us spec car. It could have, flairs, Daytona interior, power windows, Air Conditioning. If it's a US car it almost 100% of the time would have A/C and P/W. It has the right wheels, looks to be ok in that area. Should have a tool kit and complete set of manuals in a leather pouch that would be correct for this ear car. It'll have windshield wipers that park to the right, not in the middle. Smog stuff on the motor if it's really original, although all but one car I've ever seen had all the smog stuff pulled off. It should not have ANY EXTERIOR FERRARI BADGES. There's a giant check list of stuff for a 1974, a guy who knows the cars, like Martin, can tell you if the car is correct, and what it would need to get correct. There's a good chance that no matter what, the car is gonna need something, and that it's going to be expensive. No indication of books/tools, that could cost you $8K or more to fix properly. Get a guy who really knows the cars to go over it head to foot. DM
CRAP!! Pay me enough and I'll fly down and look a the car. But you'd be better off with someone else with mechanical skills, and not just visual acuity. Maybe post in FLA section? DM
my car came from Bob Cressman Ferrari in N Miami. When I was checking it out I found the mechanic that used to work there & his name was Tim. He is in N Miami or Ft lauderdale. I just looked for his full name & # and I havent found it (yet). He has a shop down there and knows all of the local Dinos. I am fairly certain that he had the client who owned the car before it was painted green and sold to the cruise ship ceo. I think he arranged the deal. Someone down there will know of him as he was pretty well known. I will keep looking for his # but he is your guy.
Tim Stanford 287 SW 33rd St Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315-3327 (954) 764-7824 >>I think this guy knows this car...finally came up with his name...good luck!!
Looked at it yesterday and really hate the color..so before I spend any $ having a ppi done on it I need to factor in a color change and the seller would need to drop the price in order for me to consider it. I just don't think I have the stomach for another project! To make matters worse, I spoke to people in this area who know the car and the consensus is that the shade of green is not a correct period color for a Dino. I am going to keep looking....
as they say to each his own & although it might not have been a Dino color I really liked it- It was well done from what I recall. Still if you hate the color the economics of painting it etc wont make sense. There will be another one that will fit what you want...have to keep on looking
I haven't seen the car, but I would guess it was done in Verde Pino Metallizzato. Truely an unique color, but original..... hard to say whether it is "EXACT" or not as there have been many, many, many posts about current guides matching the original colors at time of production Just my two cents, I am SOOOOO excited to see colors other than red/yellow/black/silver........ even though I own colors in like these, if I was to repaint< i love the Dino's so much that I wouldn't repaint it a "RESALE" color, but something unique
