Why a headrest for the passenger, but not the driver?

We've had this discussion in the past and, apparently, many 250 GTs from the late 1950s had passenger-only headrests. The reason for this is still unknown to me.

By the way, Christian - Beautiful car and great photos! Thanks for sharing!

The headrest is not seen on photos from 58 or 59.

Dumb question, but are those seats original? It may answer the question of the headrest issue?

I was told by an owner of a passenger headrest car that on a rally the driver had the wheel to hang onto while the passenger needed something to keep his head from moving around as much, hence the passenger only headrest.

Interesting that it shows up in PF Coupes - not what one would traditionally think of as a rally car.

Very funny! Would you like to try being held in place on a fast drive with a headrest?!

It was quite common back then that only the passengers seats had headrests. Check out Jess Pourret's great book "La Légende Ferrari 250 GT Compétition" and you find many period pictures of TdF with that feature. I think it was for comfort only. No one cared about safety yet.

you ve right seems to have no special reason concerning the headrests, it s only for the confort of passenger.

woaw! 3269Gt is one of famous Fcars...nice to see you here.
