I see what you mean...but the rise 48" rise height is important to me. 'They' say it can lift a truck with no problem......

I absolutely love my scissor, it is so nice to not have to crawl around. It was actually purchased so I could life the frame of a car that I am restoring off the ground so I would not be bent over all day wiping out my back. But I since have used it for just about everything on my Dino.

I know it is low-tech but I have had good luck just jacking up the car and using big jack stands. The bigger stands get the car off the ground pretty far, take up very little space when not used and are less than $40 a pair for good ones.

Simple is often best and less costly agreed, I have two motorcycle lifts that with blocks could raise it 18", but then I'd have to crawl on my back, which is ok every now and again, but I need to spend some time on the underside of the car and prefer a nice rolling stool that was bought for that purpose.
Also I am dropping engine and sub frame on my Alfa, so I need to get the body clear, the scissor jack with a 48" raise seems to accomplish both goals.

Any issues with the rollers digging into the floor?

dignini, I have been considering an alternative to the crocodile-jack/stand combination I've been using all my life, and have been looking at scissors jacks. Nussbaum (a German company) has a local distributor and offers a scissors-style ack, called the Sprinter. It is interesting and can be moved around. Information should be available on the Internet.

I wonder though whether the low-lift, 2-post Danmar MaxJax (not sure I spelled that correctly) is the better alternative. It takes up less space it seems, allows better access to the underside, and seems easier to install. Have you considered that?

Thank you for the links, The 2 Post Danmar looks really nice. I had not seen it before. It needs to be bolted to the floor, that may be a drawback for me. I saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5e5c8euXEw&NR=1
Now I am rethinking. It certainly allows more access, but requires more room.

    Neither !

the one on the scissor lift is a 1934 Singer Le Mans, it would be offended to be called a MG :)

The other car is also a 34 Singer but its a 1.5 Litre sports.

And yes, it was a VERY busy garage, the new garage has huge amounts more room, I went from 560sq.ft. to 1,180sq.ft. last year ( I like to round up to 1,200sq.ft.)

yes and no, when I lifted my GMC Sierra truck and left it on the lift for a week while waiting for parts, the tiles were dimpled by the weight. Lifting the truck and working on it for a day does not damage them but a week does. The Singer never has damaged the tiles and sits on that lift for long periods of time.

Also this is a pic in my new garage, much less busy don't you think ?

Haha! Yes, the Singers and MGs were rivals in their day. I think the Singers were probably technically more advanced, but I say that grudgingly as I have had a TC for about 16 years. It would be offended. There is only one Singer here - a 4AD - and it races with us sometimes.

Dignini, if you can find the space and able to drill the anchor bolts for the Danmar, that seems to be the way to go, assuming no or a small price difference. When not in use and unbolted, the Danmar should take up less space than the scissors lift. It does not require much headroom.

I am in the throes of deciding whether to get the Danmar.

By the way, dignini, the overall maximum height of the Danmar is 89", which is below your 98" ceiling.

Yes! That is a good thing. I am leaning towards the max jack, the projects will have to go to the lift bay rather than the scissor jack being moved to the project. Its a change of plan. Also have to consider weather the max jack can go in an end bay, I'd rather not put it in the middle bay. More planning.

Because the jack has to go to the projects, I have ordered the scissor jack, However, I am sure I will add the Danmar at alter stage, when I can move projects around and dedicate a bay. Thank you for pointing it out.

I received my jack two weeks ago, I have not been to use it cause it came with no documentation. Numerous calls to the manufacturer (USA) has resulted in my having to download badly scanned and irrelevant documentation. No one has ever returned a call and when "lucky" enough to connect, I received very friendly, cortueous promises and no follow up worth a .....
Had to call an electrician cause the motor only hummed, turned out to be a loose wire. That sorted, I did partially assemble it and connected the pump, I did get it to go up and down. It appears to be very sturdy, weighs in excess of 800lbs, cannot easily be moved. There are some pieces that seem to belong to something else and some bolts missing, but I cannot be sure cause as of this moment I still do not have the right schematic. UGH! so fa not a good experience!
