I think I will. There's nothing I like better than going through grid lock traffic to a public place and heavy crowds to not be able to get close enough to see a public event.
Good effort by Craig. http://www.caradvice.com.au/111550/jenson-button-craig-lowndes-lap-bathurst-in-an-f1-car/
If Jensen isn't whispering in Bernies ear I'd be surprised. Not sure whether the circuit meets full FIA safety standards in its current form for F1, but I reckon it'd be one of the best circuits in the world. Location may be an issue due to accommodation but could be worked around???? Interesting that Craig was only 1 second off Buttons lap time in the F1 car and Jensen was 7 seconds of Craigs time in the V8 Stupidcar. Oz and NZ have talent, unfortunately there's no money to back them. With 3 high speed straights, and some short twisty stuff I reckon it'd be a great race with real overtaking opportunities.
It doesn't meet standards by a long, long way and it would cost a ridiculous amount of money to meet the standards. I am surprised they were even allowed to run the McLunken today.
It would be fabulous; but not in a million years I am afraid. F1 in Oz is almost over unfortunately. Too many new mega facilities in other countries that would also make Bernie more money. Have a look at the permanent facility they are building in Texas for example- I seem to recall the budget was $100 Million. What do we have to offer now?
It would no longer be challenging if it were modified for F1, that's for sure. Modern F1 has ruined all the iconic European tracks.
If you're talking those numbers and based on reports Victoria is loeing $50 million a year then it's possible we could fund an upgrade of Bathurst??

You guys are missing one important thing. Even if they got the money together to bring it up to FIA F1 Specs(assuming they don't cut some track out) The time of the race is still a problem and it would most definitely have to be a night race. Which means extra cost to have lights installed and then removed. Most F1 ppl wouldn't be into camping nor travelling 2hrs to get to the track from Sydney. They would need to build a few more hotels. It's just not going to happen.
