My response to the comment by ND Flack is slow in coming for a good reason. His and the comments made by others have simply stunned me and for once I was at a loss for words. I don't handle this kind of thing very well and I didn't know what to do but my son, Spasso, came to my rescue and pointed out some things that I failed to see.
I have never thought that my participation in Av Chat was anything more than a way to join in and to share some of the memorable incidents in the 80 years that I have been involved in airplanes and flying. Now that is a figure that almost doesn't make sense but it really did start in 1930 when my mother took me to the old Hoover Airport in Washington, D.C.
I have never considered myself as anything special because I have done nothing special. I have simply been around for a long time and never stopped dabbling in aviation.
When I think of those of you who are successful businessmen, airline pilots, doctors, mechanics, lawyers, and career military I recognize my insignificance. I have done nothing heroic to accomplish what I have done. You did. I just tagged along.
As for the "book" or the record of what I was fortunate enough to see and to partake, I have put down 34,000 words so far and I plan to include some of my sketches. I hope to finish it before I am. I have a hunch that I will. I have doubts that it will be published as a real book but maybe I can get a lot of copies made.
Av Chat is a most unique forum in that the contributors share an interest in and a love of flying AND in so many colors!
The most unique thing, however, is the unseen faces of the friends that I have out there.
    Thank You.

Wow - I had no idea either. A big congratulations to you sir. Flying machines, motorcars and early steam have always been my passions and I can only hope to bite off a fraction of what you've accomplished.

Many more years of passion to you Bob.

Bob, that's good enough for me. Considering how aviation has changed through the years, I think that it's important for those who have come before to remind us about the way things used to be, in simpler times. Even though I haven't been around anywhere near as long as you, I try to tell my stories to the younger engineers at LM Aero, who for the most part have never even seen a slide rule, let alone use one to design airplanes! Regardless of your opinion of yourself, you are a genuine asset to this board and we are all glad that you are here.

I would like to do that anytime. Just let me and Spasso know when it would be good for you. I don't eat much.
