as you guys know i had a small problem with my car will not go into R with out shifting to first gear first .. basically if i start the car and try to reverse it will not go to reverse . i have to shift to 1 then select R .. so the solution was to have pis "point of initial slip" set up a couple points . so i called the dealer (Cauley Ferrari) of Michigan ..the only Ferrari dealer in Michigan. to get estimate to get the TCU set up . at first they told me they gonna charge me 2 hours to get it set @ 140 per hour . the total of 280.00 . so i agree to do it . so i left my phone # for the tech to call me and set an appointment . now i got a phone call from the service manager to inform me that they would like to rape me . before they set the (pis)"point of initial slip" set up . they would like to go through the entire system first . maybe bleed the system then set the pis .. 1800.00 . or since they didn't put a clutch in this car they would like to change my clutch for 7900.00 just to be in the safe side ?????????
Joe the service manager price were
    1800.00 NO guarantee or
7900.00 they will be happy to guarantee it
or take it some where else ..
by the way all this was a phone conversation .. they never seen the car
i ask just to get the pis set they refuse to do it since they never worked in this car before .
i don't need a new clutch ... my car runs good ... shift good .. just some times will not go into R with out put it in 1 ..
joe the manager told me 1800 or 7900 or live with it .. can any one direct me to the right direction please ..

How long did you own the car before reporting the problem?

That really is too bad. The Dealer I take my car to is willing to install parts they haven't sold me, nor do they ever give me ultimatums. They are more then willing to directed on what to do. It seems they always suggest the most expensive thing but they seem to always be honest on if what they are suggesting is guaranteed to fix the problem at hand. That is one of the problems owning an exotic car. I have had a H1 Hummer for 12 years and until a few years back I was stuck taking it to the most untrustworthy, over charging dealer because it was the only place that had a trained tech that had experience working on the trucks. Maybe its time to trade it in for a Lambo? j/k :)

FWIW I dont know you or Cayley but if they are the only dealer in town then you're burning the only bridge you got; if I were you I'd work it out and delete that post. These things never end well this way. Just my 2cents good luck either way

They really don't owe you anything. Not that I agree, sounds like they are being dicks but technically they don't owe you anything. Is there an independent shop that you can use?

You might want to go to the North Central Region of the chatroom and ask the guys from Michigan for an alternative to Cauley.

amgman there is a technical section on fchat that might get you some opinions from mechanics or folks that have technical knowledge about your problem. You might have to be subscribed to see it. It does seem weird.

i think they figure 280.00 it's not enough . lets sucker this guy to pay 1800.00 or even 7900.00 for a new clutch job that i really don't need .

I've been to Cauley before. Really nice showroom (much better car inventory than MAG here in Columbus which has crap inventory of Ferrari), but the salesman had no idea how to pronounce Scuderia and did not know what he was talking about. No experience with thier service department. I will say they are nuts if they are saying 2 hours to set PIS. You have the TCU upgrade and it literally takes 5 minutes to plug in the computer, enter the write value, and click enter. That is it. Even pulling out the TCU (behind passenger seat) and putting a new one in and programming TCU should be 1 hour or less.

I service my car at Studio 47 http://thestudio47.com/ here in Columbus, OH. They are a Fchat sponsers and an active Fchatter owns the shop too. Execellent customer service and they will treat you right. It's probably a 4 hour drive from Cauley Ferrari shop to Studio 47. While you are there, you can have Todd at Esoteric Detail make your car look like new too: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=356073

7900 for a clutch is on the high end. I had a clutch service for less than half that. as usual, ymmv. perhaps a non-ferrari shop can make the adjustment for you. Its a shame it comes to that, but sometimes it does. I've had a similar experience (not with Cauley) so I feel what you're sayin.

I am sure not to make many friends today.

Tony, I know you are upset and when you are upset you dont always use punctuation, perfect grammar, etc. But you have posted several times and you come across as a bit of a problem customer for many reasons that are subjective. Maybe if this is also how you communicated with this service department, they put on a defensive position i.e. rasing the price, or more likely quoting worst case pricing. If you communicated with me in this manor I would not have called you back at all.

*I realize English might not be your first language.

    1. You stated that someone told you it would be $280, but it clearly was not the Tech, because you had to leave your number for the Tech to call you back. Your specific service situation is atypical because you have installed an updated TCU and want them to get it working correctly for you. You think it is the PIS and maybe you are correct, but it might not change anything, leaving you with a $280 bill and the same symptoms. The shop would then be on the hook to get it working like you expect, even though they did not start this project. Thus I can see how someone other than the tech might mis-quote you through ignorance, where the tech knows better. This is not a quote for an oil change!

    2. With all of the data presented it sounds like they were well within their right to make these quotes. Remember that you want to know up front how much it will cost to have your car fixed, not the minimum amount possible. I think that quoting a worst case number is the correct thing to do.

    3. Based on how you project yourself here it is possible that after a nice argument with the tech, they just did not want your business. The customer is always right, yes, but you are not their customer.... yet. This may have been their goal.

    4. [advice] When you approach the next service department, remember that they are people too and are trying to run a business. I dont recommend telling them about how terrible Cauley's service department might be and I would also omit telling them this story.

**I have no affiliation, nor do I care anything about Cauley.

That's a very cogent and reasonable observation given what is known here.

Agreed. I've dealt with Cauley Ferrari (5+ years ago) and they were nothing but professional and up front.

If you are looking for a good independant, I would try http://motorwerksgroup.com/index.htm in Michigan. They worked on my car (when I lived in Michigan) and I couldn't be happier.

    Good luck.

Pretty fair estimate for a clutch replacement from a dealer. My dealer told me it could easily exceed $10k on the 360, depending on the flywheel.?.? And I was already their customer :) Made that shiny 430 in the corner start calling my name.
