I was thinking of factory ordering a new Porsche Turbo with a stick but it is no longer available in 2014. What cars are left that offer a manual stick shift? The only ones that I know of are BMW M series by special order and Corvettes.

I blame the people that when they had a choice they bought cars with paddle shifters. Yay.

    fewer and fewer choices!

i bought a used stick 997 gen 2 turbo with centre lock wheels and ceramic brakes. will be the last stick turbo. it is an awesome car if you are not deadset on going for a new car.

I just put in an order for a new Corvette Convertible with a 7 speed stick. It's not special order. They are standard.

Honestly, if they offered a DCT in the Vette I would take it that way. But, they don't so I'll take the stick over a slush box. Don't blame people for ordering what they want.

WRX, EVO GSR, Toyota 86/Scion FR-S/Scooby BRZ, etc all come with sticks.

BMW, Audi, most Porsches have the option of either.

I think it's Porsche trying to emulate Ferrari. The Turbo is approaching Ferrari prices, so they go with "standard" paddle shift ... like Ferrari.

I've been stirring my own coffee since the Nixon years.
But I'm taking the plunge. I've ordered an EVO X MR with the Getrag twin clutch paddle shifter.
The reviews say the Getrag is one of the best units on the market.
... Because it does what you tell it to do. It doesn't try to overrule the "dumb" driver.

But I'm a bit nervous: You know what they say about old dogs and new tricks. ;)
With a twin clutch paddle box and all-wheel traction control, the MR will be quite a change from cars where the only computer is under the driving cap. ;)

And I'll still have the 328 to practice heel & toe. :p

Sad state of affairs. I'm sure quite a few where also ''convinced'' going for the flappy paddles by the sales men* promising them that manuals will be almost unsalable etc. Ofcourse they forgot to mention they also get a hefty commission on them...

*spoken to a few owners when I asked them why they got a flappy paddle and 1/3 told me it was for resale value

The 991C2S has rwd and is still available with a 7mt and will be more fun to drive than the PDK turbo with awd anyway.

The new Cayman S is can be had in stick, and I think I read that it is supposed to be better than other Porsche manuals (the 7 spd.) because it was developed an as manual to begin with where as the 7 speed wasn't.

a third stated their reason for having a flappy gearbox was resale specifically. some choose it because they preffered it and others a combination of the two. For me there's no reason to ask on saying 'why did you choose a manual'...I normally congratulate someone specifically for choosing one as I already know the reason :p.

    New Corvette. New Viper.

The base 911's still do, for now.

Audi R8 v10 does... as does it's chassis sister Lamborghini Gallardo... (I'm sure they're continue the Euro trend of fading them out as well though)

pffft lots of cars can be bought with a stick, but how many minivans?
    One.
    Mazda 5.
Just traded ours in on a slush box Town and Country (which would be STUPID with a stick) due to a move to Houston, but enjoyed rowing the 6-sp in the Mazda for 25k miles around Milwaukee and several 1000+ mile road trips.

Count me a re-formed "stickshift" snob. I've become softer in time, but also look closer at the vehicle and where it will be driven than before.
My co-worker here in Houston (26 yrs old!) has a manual trans 2012 Camaro SS. While I admire his enthusiasm, for the vast majority of the driving he does, especially with a big, torquey V8, I can't see how rowing your own gears would be much fun. Sure it's nice to nail the throttle on the highway and get that immediate thrust that an automatic would blunt, but still no thanks at least around here.
I've yet to drive a dual-clutch gearbox but imagine such a thing would be great in the Vette. Closest I've come is an sequential automatic manual in Smart Roadsters and Alfa 156s I drove in Germany (similar concept to Ferrari's F1 system AFAIK). Fairly antiquated system compared to dual-clutchers but it was liberating to keep both hands on the wheel at all times on the 'Ring. Would be more so with more powerful cars and things happening that much quicker I'm sure.
That said, an automatic in cars that live in the upper ranges of the tach (Honda CRX, Miata, hmmmm got to be more) is just wrong.

Wonder if the Porsche Exclusive Program wouldn't do a stick version for you? Sure, it would cost FU money, but I bet it could be done...

I thought I would never buy a sports car with a stick again. I just ended up with a 997 Turbo 6 speed, and I absolutely love it. It may be slower than PDK, but I really like driving it, and it re-ignited my love for manual transmissions.

I think this is the first time in my life where I don't really like any car made. If a 458 Spider offered a stick I'd own one. I should have bought a 911 Turbo last year when I was thinking of it. If I had known that they were going to discontinue the stick I would have for sure. I am usually not into buying used but now I don't have a choice. Damn you people that want to program your destination into a computer and have the car take you there.

Just saw a manual Panoz for sale on here. That's a lot of car for honda accord money. I guess that bests my VWgolf R idea earlier!
