Mark's right: the 10" rims bring gold. (Have a set on my car now.) Yet I have (4) 7" Campys (repainted, cleared, nice) and (2) 8" Campys if anyone's interested. Simply cleaning out a lifetime of garage stuff. 7's are $150 each; 8's are $200 each.
Jim, The Group 4 wheels in that link are excellent reproductions. The forged 10" regular Pantera wheels are very nice and likely well-made, but they do not exactly match the originals. As such, they might not look "right" when paired with the front wheels. Adams, I've sent you an e-mail about your wheels. Mark
Great picture Mark! Here's my favorite of the Primal Princess. I call it my "Motion" picture.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
that is outstanding! I even love the vitaloni mirrors. this may be one of the best looking panteras I have ever seen!!!!!
I thought the quality of the 10's looked very nice. But they might not match the OEM fronts exactly, like you stated. I thought that it was interesting that someone is making some replica wheels. I wouldn't have thought the demand would be that high, given the lack of tire choices for the 15". I contacted Pirelli and Yokohama about tires for these cars. Never heard back from Pirelli about remaking a P7 or a new P Zero. All I got was a courtesy email from Yokohama thanking me for my interest in their product. I have factory 10's on my early car and the group 4/5 wheels on my 5S. As stated previously when I contacted Pirelli, I asked what type of demand would it take to start producing tires for these cars again, but never heard back from them.
fwiw...if anyone is looking for a pair of 285/50/VR15 P7's (FOR SHOW ONLY), as they are old. I have a set with decent tread. I would let em go cheap if anyone with a GTS wants the original P7 tires on their 10" rears. these...$100. plus shipping for the pair. They hold air fine, you could drive on them slowly/safely to a show, etc. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jim, as you likely know, the demand for the GR4 wheels pushed prices to around $10K/set, which made good reproductions a viable option. Most guys that pitched their original wheels from their GT5 and 5-S cars are really kicking themselves now. You were wise to hang on to yours! You are absolutely right about the tire availability and I also can't understand why the manufacturers are not doing a run every 3 or 4 years to supply a clear market for good tires. Great shot of your car William! I love seeing "in-motion shots of Panteras. Mark
Mark, I always hang on to the OEM equipment. The wheels that I have are on both of my cars. I love the look of the OEM wheels, especially on the wide body cars. I have thought about putting some Pantera East 17" or 17"/18" on my early car. As I stated previously that I emailed Pirelli about this. A few emails went back and forth, the gentlemen that I was contacting said he was going to speak to his boss about this, that was it, he never got back to me, nothing.... I figured if we could get enough owners together and do a group buy, even if the prices were more expensive than some of the top performance tires currently available, I would think a lot of owners would probably do it since most options are basically non existent. I know some owners are going with the Michelin TB15 and TB05 on the GRP 4/5 wheels. I contacted Coker tires about these tires. Spoke with two different people, who were supposed to get back to me, but again, it never happened. Aren't these companies supposed to be in business to sell tires? One would think that this would be a no brainer, a guaranteed sale or prepurchase for a batch of tires to be made. If anyone has experience with the Michelin TB tires, could they post their experience about fit, handling, wear?
I have had the same problem with tyres for my Lamborghini LM002, the tyre (345/60 R17) were only made by Pirelli, I have contacted the factory and Pirelli UK and a number of other tyre companies, and no one is interested, I was offered a set of new Pirelli tyres without the sand lip, but thought $20,000 was a bit steep!!!!!!
One would think it would be a win-win situation to make tires if the mfg. knew they were all going to be purchased. That is definitely crazy money there, 20K. Wow!!!
hi rob since no one has chimed in...from the top of my head i recall the early cars were pencil thin xwx F 185 70 15 and R 215 70 15. dont know the arrivas sizes.
Dunlop and Michelin used 185-70/215-70. The Goodyear Arriva size was C-60X15/H-60X15. Info is in the Pantera Gold Portfolio.
Hahahaha, we both have that same problem Nick, That's the beauty of monopoly. I've even contacted local tire manufacturer here whom I personally know. They said the tire mold is 200-$300k, it will not very expensive if we don't order a lot. Back in the early 2000 that "new" Scorpion without the sandlips used to retail for about $700-$800 each, now Pirelli stop the production and made them "exclusive"
Friends, As you all know I am seriously on the hunt for nicest pre "L" Red Pantera I can find. I fell in love with this car online and thanks to being able to access the ProvaMo (thank you Chuck) registry I found it as #1529. I was hoping someone might know who the owner was or have any other photos?. I still am looking at a few cars but for some reason this one looks so nice to me. Maybe if I found the owner I would give him an offer he could not refuse! I know there are only a few out there and hoping there is one for me!!!!! We can do it! Thanks in advance!!! Robert, That can't be answered accurately. They do and don't depending on which ones and if the rotors are larger than stock. Mark
In a previous life I used to design and sell performance parts for Volvos. We did Wilwood conversion kits for 240 series Volvos. With an 11.25" rotor there was no way we could get them to fit under a 15" wheel using a Wilwood Forged Billet Superlite caliper. As Mark has said, rotor size will dictate if it fits, but rotor position will also have significant bearing on it. The further inboard the rotor is, the more room there will be. If custom rotor hats are being made, you can position the rotor where you want, keeping in mind the caliper will need to clear things like ball joints, tie rods, springs and struts. I'm not heavily into the Pantera aftermarket but I suspect you are asking about a kit you can already buy off the shelf?
Thanks, hey I never asked what kind of horn does an early 71 car have I am hoping a Fiamm like the Ferrari, that is my favorite and my wife's least favorite part of the car! It gets more exercise that a olympic gymnast! HAAAA
Unfortunately I think it's from the Ford parts (sounds like a barge) bin but it's an easy changeout as they're in the front wheel well. Mark
