Yeah the TR has just become cool again :) Well it always was to me and most of my generation but we didn't make any difference to the market until we could finally afford them lol.

That combined with the general rocket in nearly all classic car prices in the UK probably suddenly made other people realise that such a legend wasn't just going to stay the price of new hot hatch for long!

Regardless of the rest of the market they had to come in demand again - it was so simple in the mid 80's there were just 2 ultimate production cars - the Testarossa and Countach, so there's nothing else like them to buy anyway.

A million mega appologies Mel (and all other Testarossa lovers) - definitely not what I meant - pls don't send Shamile after me!

Always was and always will be cool to me and millions of others too - I just meant it's well past that old out of date "last decades hero" stage that put some people off 10-15 years ago :D

    Awesome pic btw!

The Japanese Koenig I posted about earlier just jumped in price!

    1989 FERRARI TESTAROSSA 5.0 2dr | eBay

They obviously decided they weren't being greedy enough with a £30K profit, and went for £50K instead!!!

Agree with you on Harris, Chris brought alot of attention to the 512TR as a serious drivers car.
It's well produced car porn that tipped 700k folks over the edge...

it is all a question of the price

but you may also think about your car:
you know this long time and you know what you have. may be the next would be a horrible piece ?

    also mostly it is so:
when you need money you will not get much for your car
when you don´t need money you could get much more, but then you do´t sell because you like the car too much to sell

They show an 11% appreciation for the Quarter 65k-140k for TR and 22% for 512 150k-215k I still think the Sportscarmarket is a little bit of in 80-90 cars as for example they have the same price for early TR, they sow no change on 512M and on Lamborghini they dont even list the se30 on the diablo

Romano, it's true these prices are crazy compared to one year ago. I suspect, though, that in six months, or maybe in just three months, we will be looking at these prices and commenting how cheap the Testa/TR/M were now and posters will be kicking themselves for not buying. Prices for various Ferraris are going up week by week, the question is how long it will last/will it go backwards. But I suspect that in a year's time the cheapest 512M won't be 225k, but double that...a year ago, they were half that.

I believe these prices will remain strong as long as the economy continues to add strength. The only reason the 80's Ferrari boom crashed was when the economy tanked in 89-90....which led to the 91-92 recession which lingered until 96.

Were you around during the late 80s-1990 bubble? I was, and I don't remember the crash happening as you mentioned. By the time 1990 got here, prices were so topped out there wasn't much more room to go up...translation, not enough buyers to keep the merry-go-round turning. The recession sure didn't help any, but prices were already way too high by then to be sustained.

No, I just see the historical trend between this rise and the last one. I've never heard of prices topping out but more likely the money supply running out...like the housing crash. Prices just kept rising until the cdo's couldn't he sold anymore.

I don't see things slowing down that much until another asset class becomes more sexy. Then the heard will rush over to graze there.

    This is just my opinion.

It's interesting that I've had several PM's on this site from people wanting to buy my Diablo but none looking for my 512TR. Neither are advertised for sale.

IIRC, 1991 TRs had a quicky resell asking price of $300K in the FML in 1991 (when MSRP was ~$175K), but the fall came quick and hard shortly thereafter (otherwise, they would've sold many more 512TR ;)).

Steve is about right. Our 90 originally sold for $300. The dealer I was at had a high water mark of 305 or 310 as I recall.

One of the problems with the 512 was so many thought it was just a face lift. There was so little difference in design it was difficult to convince people it was worth trading up. FNA people told us in confidence even before that car was released that they made a mistake in not doing a complete redesign and early feedback made them think it would be a sales disaster. It was but the economy didn't help either.

300k in 1991 is nearly 600k now...and there's a LOT more money in the world now. Because there's a lot more world now. A lot more high net worths. All that in the media about the One Per Cent...and they don't buy on credit. When the wealthy fix on a product, there is no ceiling, look at the art market which was due to collapse 100 times in the past 10 years. The top will come if and when the wealthy get bored of this asset class, as happened in the fine wine market in 2011. (By wealthy, I guess I mean us folks) But that was different; wine was fuelled by speculators. I think the people who buy Ferraris aren't speculators, yet. They (we) are Ferrari lovers living the dream.
    Who knows...
Greg, I'd inquire about your TR if you were in Europe! I'd love the full set.
Writing this from China, the worlds biggest luxury market, which is a non player in classic cars, for the moment, but that's a different thread.
